What a wonderful birthday weekend!
More than anything, I realized how fortunate and downright happy I am in life right now. Seriously y’all, I have the best friends and family who made my 31st birthday special. Even more? All of y’all on the online world joined in on the fun to make me feel extra loved. Literally, I received hundreds of birthday wishes via calls, texts, tweets, Instagram, and Facebook, and that isn’t an exaggeration. Pure happiness.
I could try to type up a detailed description of all of my birthday celebrations, but quite honestly, that would be an insanely long blog post and none of y’all would want to read it anyway! So, in the tradition of pure laziness, I’m going with bullets.
1. My parents took me out for a wonderful dinner at Ocean Prime, a local seafood and steak restaurant in Larimer Square. The salmon was delicious, but let’s be honest: the piece de resistance was the fantastic dessert that the chef whipped up special when he found out it was my birthday:
Yup, that’s Baked Alaska and in case you can’t tell, it was literally the size of my face. I used the past tense with that statement because I managed to eat 90% of it, even after inhaling my salad, my baked salmon, some of my mom’s soup, and another glass of wine. That’s how I roll!
2. Will flew in as a surprise birthday gift! He just flew back to San Diego last Monday after a week here in Denver (including our trip to McNamara Hut) and will be coming back this Friday for an avalanche course we’re taking in Estes Park. Because of all of these trips, we had agreed that he unfortunately wouldn’t be able to visit for my birthday. However, he surprised me a few weeks ago by telling me that he had purchased a plane ticket months ago! Not only did I get to spend the weekend with him but he also double surprised me with this beautiful birthday gift:
Could this necklace be any more gorgeous?! He put it in an REI box so I was completely surprised when I opened it up to find that classic Tiffany’s robin blue color!
3. My parents and Will took me to the ballet! Because of all my years of dance, I am a huge fan of the arts, especially the ballet. I try to go to a couple shows every year, so I was psyched to learn we were seeing Ballet Masterworks.
Ballet Masterworks is a neoclassical performance that was so different than anything that I had previously seen the Colorado Ballet perform. More often than not, they stick to classics like The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, or Romeo and Juliet. This, my friends, was definitely not a classical performance! The performance were very edgy and modern but showed insane athleticism. I was so impressed and had an awesome time at the show. I was also excited to wear a new birthday outfit that I purchased especially for the evening!
4. Beautiful birthday flowers! I love both tulips and irises, but I was a little worried when I found these outside of my door. Will told the delivery man to leave them there because the driver once left them at my neighbor’s house when I wasn’t home, and she hung onto them for a week! However, it was cold enough outside that I thought the chill may prevent the blooms from opening. Luckily, they are going crazy right now and look beautiful!
5. Will and I went to Dave and Buster’s on Saturday night for an epic evening of skee ball, basketball, and horse racing. I haven’t been to that place in forever, but we had such an awesome time! (And, for the record, I beat him once at basketball. FTW!) After D&B, we hoofed it to the other side of town for a good ol’ game of cosmic bowling. Per usual, he trounced me but I suppose that isn’t that difficult when I only bowl a 73, right?!
In short, I had a wonderful birthday weekend and couldn’t imagine a better way to ring in my 31st year. Thank you again to everyone for all of the birthday wishes!

Happy Birthday!!
Looks like you had a fabulous one! How sweet of your man to fly in and surprise you! Gorgeous necklace he got you too!
So glad you had a wonderful birthday…it sounds perfect! Skee ball is David’s and my favorite past time. We are known to seek out the old style skee ball machines. Sad to say they are getting harder and harder to find.
There were only six machines and half were broken! I even hit 2 100 pointers and a couple of 50 pointers one round, and the machine didn’t count them. I was so sad 🙁
YAY looks like an awesome birthday! What a beautiful necklace too, love it!
I LOVED this so much I refuse to git distracted by how much old I am than you 🙂
Wait, I thought you just turned 21?! 😉
Wow looks like you had an amazing birthday! Lots of fun! The necklace is beautiful!
Happy birthday! You did so many fun things! 🙂
I think the guy kind of likes you 🙂 Makes me so happy to see your love story unfolding and that you had such a great birthday!

Happy Birthday! Looks like you had so much fun! I love me some Skee Ball–although I haven’t played in eons.
Happy Belated!! Sounds like a great weekend. As long as you had fun, it doesn’t matter what you do. Keep enjoying yourself!
That does look like you had a helluva birthday party!
Happy Birthday – glad you had a great weekend!
did you go to D&B off coblvd? that’s in my hood! sounds like a wonderful birthday weekend 🙂
Okay, your birthday has all kinds of awesomeness written all over it! So much fun packed into one birthday!!
I’m really terrible at bowling too. Ever tried candlepin bowling? Everything is miniature and it’s way harder. Fail.
WOW WOW WOW so much to oggle in this post with the beautiful necklace, food, and fun events!! So glad you enjoyed your weekend 🙂
So glad you had a good birthday! That necklace is beautiful. Ok, weird random question-was Will in the latest issue of Backpacker? I was flipping through mine the other day, and saw a picture that I thought might look like him and they gave the name Will but I couldn’t remember your Will’s last name (or maybe you’ve never mentioned it). Anyway, like I said, random but I was curious!
Haha, this made me laugh because YES, it totally was him 🙂 We keep getting told that they used a great pic of him but neither of us have seen it ourselves! He works PT as a gear testing editor for BP, so he goes on a lot of trips and does a lot of testing for them. Looks like I need to grab a copy of the mag so I can see this for myself!
What an epic birthday! The last time I played skee ball was with the boy I nanny for part-time and he was completely mesmerized by my skills. I’m not that good but I was on it that night! Allan and I love bowling. We used to bowl twice a week for one semester during college and we both have our own bowling ball and shoes. We don’t get out and bowl as much as we’d like to and we certainly don’t bowl over 200 but we have a great time!
