If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you probably noticed that I was clearly driving somewhere in the mountains yesterday!
My parents built a log home on the Western Slope of Colorado and finally finished construction last fall. Ever since then, this home has been my happy place! It’s outside of a tiny town that most Coloradoans have never heard of, and I literally see more deer than people while visiting here. Tals loves it too because she thinks deer are fun critters to chase! (Woe be the day when she catches one and takes a hoof to the face!)
I’ve been doing a lot of gear testing for various outdoor publications, so I am looking forward to trying out some more stuff on the Grand Mesa. The Mesa has hundreds of trails and lakes that I love to explore, and Tals and I will often go hiking without seeing a single other person. Now THAT is my kind of backcountry! I’m also excited to continue my 29.2 training with some awesome trail running…I’m hoping I see a moose!

I am also excited (nerd alert, straight ahead!) because it is AppleFest this weekend! All of Colorado’s orchards are located on the Western Slope, so Cedaredge has an apple festival every fall in order to celebrate another successful year of apples. Granted, the town has maybe 2500 people, so this festival isn’t exactly a rager….but that’s what I like about it!

What are you doing this weekend?
When you are in the mountains, do you enjoy the total silence of solitude or does it make you nervous?
I love it 🙂 I’ve spent so much time in the mountains that I truly enjoy getting away from the chaos of Denver and listening to the sounds of nature…and Tally. Maybe I love it so much because I know I always have my furball with me?

Whoa. How gorgeous is that? Looks so peaceful.
That is such an incredible scene! I am tres jealous – I hope you have a fantastic time!
That sounds like a great place to relax! I’m cabin-ing this weekend as well; and yes, the furball makes the silence of the mountains a bit more bearable. (Although, I’m trying to learn to like it when it’s just me too. I’m getting better.)
That looks like such a lovely getaway cabin/home! Jealous! I’m with you… I’m comfortable being out in the mountains by myself (well, with Cabo and the hubs of course). It’s so calm, and isolating (in a good way).
Wow great pics. It looks so nice there, hope you have a great time!
Beautiful! I did the opposite this weekend and traveled from the mountains to the city. I went to hardly strictly bluegrass festival in San Francisco. It was so much fun, but I’m glad to be back in Tahoe. SF is too crowded for me!
I think it would make me nervous! I went to the Smokies but we were in a resort…I’m so used to city/suburban life, really rural areas scare me. Hope you had a fun weekend!
