If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter, you probably noticed that I was clearly driving somewhere in the mountains yesterday!
My parents built a log home on the Western Slope of Colorado and finally finished construction last fall. Ever since then, this home has been my happy place! It’s outside of a tiny town that most Coloradoans have never heard of, and I literally see more deer than people while visiting here. Tals loves it too because she thinks deer are fun critters to chase! (Woe be the day when she catches one and takes a hoof to the face!)
I’ve been doing a lot of gear testing for various outdoor publications, so I am looking forward to trying out some more stuff on the Grand Mesa. The Mesa has hundreds of trails and lakes that I love to explore, and Tals and I will often go hiking without seeing a single other person. Now THAT is my kind of backcountry! I’m also excited to continue my 29.2 training with some awesome trail running…I’m hoping I see a moose!

I am also excited (nerd alert, straight ahead!) because it is AppleFest this weekend! All of Colorado’s orchards are located on the Western Slope, so Cedaredge has an apple festival every fall in order to celebrate another successful year of apples. Granted, the town has maybe 2500 people, so this festival isn’t exactly a rager….but that’s what I like about it!

What are you doing this weekend?
When you are in the mountains, do you enjoy the total silence of solitude or does it make you nervous?
I love it 🙂 I’ve spent so much time in the mountains that I truly enjoy getting away from the chaos of Denver and listening to the sounds of nature…and Tally. Maybe I love it so much because I know I always have my furball with me?
