Awesome First Day Run

Happy Wednesday everyone!

Today is actually the first time I’m posting from Hawaii! I knew that it would take me a few days to get situated, and I was right. The flights on Monday brutalized me, and by the time I arrived in Kauai at 7:30, Hawaiian time, I was exhausted.

However, I hadn’t been told that they condo we are staying in is completely amazing. Apparently, as part of my “you’re getting old and turning 30” surprise, my parents scored this beautiful condo that is probably four times larger than my apartment. It also has the most amazing view of the ocean from the upstairs balcony, and I was able to enjoy a stunning sunset last night.

Anyway, I woke up yesterday and decided to go for a run to shake out the cramps in my legs from the long flights. I picked a direction and started off.

And immediately got lost.

Well, not lost because it is a small island and there really isn’t anywhere to go. But, I did run smack into another hotel and couldn’t figure out how in the world I was supposed to continue along the coastline. Instead of asking for help (I swear, I’m really not stubborn), I headed back towards the main road. Apparently others had the same idea because this main road, although heavily trafficked by relative standards, was filled with runners. It was kind of awesome, actually!

I jogged along for awhile and totally enjoyed the fact that breathing was so easy here. Every time I drop down to sea level, I feel like I can run forever! In fact, I looked down at my Garmin and I was cruising at an 8:30 pace. For all y’all speedster, I know this is not impressive, but for me, that is crazy fast!

Once I managed to find my way back to the ocean, I walked around for a bit, enjoying the view. I wound up at Turtle Bay and there were so many turtles riding the waves. So adorable! I watched one little sassy guy for awhile because his little turtle head would stick out of the water as he rushed towards shore on a huge wave. If turtles could smile, I would swear this guy was grinning!

In the end, my run average a 10:37 pace, which is fairly normal for me. However, I didn’t stop my Garmin while I was walking around the turtles, so this included all of my walking. What does this mean and why do you care?

For the first time in my life, I was FAST! 🙂
