Just a Colorado Gal

Back from the campo

Steve wants me to say that I got a punchie right now

Anyway, we got back from Byron´s site the other day, and we had a good time. I think it was good for Byron to have some company out there, and we definitely enjoyed the quiet. He lives in a little wooden house with concrete flooring, about 30 minutes (by walking) from where the bus drops you off. He has orange and lime trees behind his house, and we spent the first day climbing up there and yanking some fruit off (Steve promptly ripped his shirt and Byron launched an orange at me…good times) We also went to one of the schools in the area and helped Cathy, another volunteer, with a world map that she was working on with the students. We watched as the teacher told kids no, they couldn´t paint, and proceeded to paint the easiest parts on the map himself. Kinda funny, in a weird way. Byron also showed us the ropes on the “baking things from scratch,” so we can now make bread and tortillas and soy milk and peanut butter and hummus, all from scratch! Wow for me!

Anyway, we made it back to Asuncion alive–after a FREEZING bus ride–and are headed back to Argentina in about 2 hours. We´ll only be there for a day or two, and then we begin our trek back north into Bolivia…..and Steve wants me to add “only a month until climbing day!”
