Begging Little Mongrel

Like I mentioned in my (newly developed!) About Me section, I rescued Tals from a shelter. Luckily for me, this is a fact I don’t think she has easily forgotten because she is super smart and hates doing anything wrong. I think it’s cause she is afraid I’ll send her back to the shelter! But seriously, she was house trained within 12 hours of me bringing her home, she never chews furniture, and one time when she got terribly sick and I was at work, she tried to let herself out on the balcony to explode…..when I came home, she felt so awful and traumatized that she had done anything wrong that she crawled under my bed and didn’t come out for the rest of the night. Seriously. She doesn’t require punishment; I actually think she needs therapy.

I might be a little crazy. You can see it in the eyes!

I’ve noticed lately that she seems to have picked up some behaviors from her time on the streets…even though those days were like 5 years ago.

Will Work For Food

I live in a gated apartment community in a semi-wealthy suburb of Denver, so it’s not like I’m in the ‘hood or anything. Regardless, every time I take her on a walk or take her outside to go to the bathroom, this dog of mine manages to pull some type of snack item out of the shrubs! Every Single Time! And that may not sound weird, but I’m talking serious munchies. Yesterday she found a chicken sandwich in the Current bushes by my garage. Like a whole one, complete with mayo, lettuce, and tomatoes. How the hell does a chicken sandwich get there?! Three days ago she pulled a turkey Subway out of some ugly junipers on the bike path. Last week she came trotting over with a caramel rice cake in her mouth. I am so not joking. She isn’t starved, I’m pretty sure of that. I just can’t figure out where all this food is coming from! I mean, a flipping grilled chicken sandwich???!! What, are people stashing snacks for later and my dog is just going stealth-mode and stealing them??!

I’m thinking maybe they don’t see me.

In other news, I’m studying all day today. I know, something new, right??!! I do think I’m gonna get so much done though so the Sawtooth is on like Donkey Kong for tomorrow. I even got up early today and took Tals to the track for an interval workout. Pretty sure I almost puked on her at one point. Nothing like 7am sprinting to make me want to upchuck my breakfast smoothie onto my beloved begging mongrel.

How’s your morning?!

How did you know it was caramel flavored? Did she share it with you? Stop blaming your food scrounging habbits on Tals.
