We decided to walk over to the trail head from our cabin, and I was psyched because I was getting to try out two new pieces of Columbia gear: the Compounder Shell and the Peak Freak hiking shoes. The Compounder shell has been safely tucked away for 14er season, but since the skies looked black and foreboding, I thought Saturday was the perfect time to try out my waterproof gear.

We passed through the livery and headed up the mountain. The hike was only 2 miles round trip but there was over 650 feet of elevation gain in that one uphill mile so we were huffing and puffing a bit when we arrived at the top.
The cool part of the Bible Point hike is that Edwin Brandt is buried at the top. According to history, Brandt was an 18-year-old YMCA student who had traveled to Estes Park for the Student Conference. He was later killed in a car accident, and his funeral was held at the Estes Park YMCA. After the ceremony, his casket was carried to the summit where he is now buried.
Now that I type that, it sounds a little morose, but it truly is a peaceful hike. The coolest part is that they have placed a mailbox on the summit for hikers to record their thoughts. Angel and I left a note for Heather and Mike, wishing them a happy wedding!
Unfortunately, the sky DID open up and began to pour rain on us as soon as we got to the top. Luckily, both my Peak Freaks and Compounder shell were just as waterproof as advertised! The shell beaded the water into little balls, and I kind of enjoyed seeing the water (literally) pour of my arms.

The Peak Freaks were super comfy and I was actually a little surprised– usually hiking shoes take some breaking in work, but these were comfortable right from the start. I plan on taking both of these on my first 14er of the season over Memorial Day weekend, so I’ll have a better report for y’all after that!

Pretty. And your shoes match your jacket.
Ha, thanks! Maybe they planned that when they sent them to me 🙂
You look ADORABLE in your zip up shell 🙂
I want to come hiking! It looks beautiful! However, you and I have different ideas of what the perfect hangover cure is.
LOVE hiking!! I can’t wait until August to go hiking in Maine. Mike and I really need to hit up some of the mountains in New York though. Looks like a really pretty hike.
What a great hike!
I love this hike! One of my favorite easier local hikes. Just found your blog, loving it so far!
