So strange–now that we are done biking, I feel like life got crazy busy! Anyway, like I said, we finished biking last Saturday when we rolled into my Aunt Sharon’s house near Ft. Meyers, FL.
The last day of the trip was great–we ended up camping at an RV park-thing where we met this really sweet older gentleman named Bill. He taught me to fish, since I’d never done it before, and I caught my first two fish ever! I seriously felt so cool!!
Anyway, Aunt Sharon also lives in an RV Resort-thing down there, so we spent the week just hanging out. We got to stay in my Grandma’s trailer since she wasn’t there this week, so that was nice to have some space. We lounged around by the pool and caught up on life—and we went to our first ever hockey game! Al somehow managed to get Steve and I’s name up on the Jumbotron screen thing, so that was pretty cool.
(this is a picture of Steve and I at the game)
Then, on Saturday, Sharon and Al drove us across Florida to the Atlantic side to West Palm Beach. Steve’s brother, Rob, was running the marathon there, so he and Carmen, Steve’s dad, were there, staying at a friend’s (John) house. Sharon dropped us off at John’s condo and we spent Saturday hanging out there and then playing Texas Hold ‘Em with everyone that night. We got up at the crack of dawn on Sunday–seriously, we got up at 4:30 AM—because the race started at 6:30. Steve had gotten it into his head that he wanted to run the marathon too–no training–so Carmen, John, and myself dropped them off there. Turns out, an entire marathon with no training was a little too much for Steve, but he still managed to finish the 13.1 miles, which I still think was pretty good! Rob, of course, finished in high class by high stepping–Deion Sanders-style–across the finish line, with the announcer saying his name as “Guibo Santoro.” Classic Rob, no?!!!
Anyway, I’m back home now for two days, trying to gather up all of our stuff for South America. I’m kinda concerned that my pack isn’t going to hold everything! Yikes! I’ll head back to Palm Beach on Wednesday night, and then we are meeting up with Steve’s mother to go down to the Floriday Keys for a few days. I’ve never been there, but I’m on a mission to find an alligator. I really need to see one! After we get back, it’s off to Quito! Vamanos!
