Closing out 2010: My Top 10 of 2010

With the close of the year, everyone is running around making resolutions and promising themselves that things will somehow be better for the upcoming year. I was happy with 2010, and although I had my share of difficulties–who doesn’t, really?–I have far more enjoyable memories of the year than the opposite. As such, here are my top 10 of 2010!

  1. Egypt. I got to go to Egypt. Seriously?! That has been on my list for years, and I was lucky enough to finally get to see the pyramids!!!!
  2. Skydiving. As an amazing 28th birthday present, I was taken on “surprise” skydiving. Yes, I did not know what we were doing until we literally walked into the hangar of Mile High Skydiving in Longmont. It was absolutely awesome!
  3. Completing my first Olympic tri. I’ve done lots of sprint triathlons over the years, but only recently did I decide to take the somewhat massochistic leap into longer distance races. I completed the Loveland Lake to Lake tri and loved it….and spawned my desire for even longer events 🙂
  4. NSCD. Winter of 2009-10 was the first season that I donated my time to be a volunteer adaptive ski instructor. I worked with a nonverbal child with autism last year and we had a great time. I can’t wait to see what this season brings!
  5. First Descents. On another volunteer front, Cindy and I made the decision a few months ago to compete in a list of races in order to raise money for First Descents. The list of races will be fairly brutal, but I am so glad we undertook the task.
  6. Good health! Usually, this is a given with me, but I unfortunately closed out 2009 with some surgery stuff. That ending to my year made me so happy to be healthy this year!
  7. My sis got engaged! Okay, I’m sure this belongs on her list more than mine, but I’ve been waiting for this engagement for awhile, and I know that it made both her and her fiance so happy. Could there be anything better?
  8. 4.0. Yes, I’m kinda bragging 🙂 I’m still trudging my way through grad school, and am happy to report that my GPA is still intact!
  9. Reunions. Over the past year, I have furthered some friendships and reunited with some old friends that had disappeared over the past decade. I am so thankful to have these people in my life, and so happy to enjoy my future friendships with them.
  10. My family. What would another year be without the love and chaos that comprises the Balogh family?!!!

Happy 2011 everyone!!!!
