Come Running with Me!

Just last week, Kara wrote a post describing her typical run, complete with pictures. I loved the idea so much that I’m gonna steal it! πŸ™‚

PS I love both of these new items of clothing, but we’ll chat about that at a later date! And yes, this is my “stealing idea” face. I look so ashamed.

Luckily, I have a bunch of open space areas directly next to my apartment complex, so I don’t even have to drive to get to nice, dirt trails. Usually Tals and I will start by cutting west through the greenbelt, until we run into this tiny pond.

Luckily, there is a flat trail that runs alongside of this pond until we hit the northern side. This is Tally’s fav part because there are usually lots of ducks (geese? I’m not sure; I don’t know my feathered friends very well!) floating around and she wants to eat them all. Luckily, I save the winged creatures every time! πŸ™‚

(Of course, Tally needed to make her blog cameo! Pretty sure she is stalking a prairie dog in this picture. No, she is not adorable when she does this!)

After we come around the lake, we usually head north into this open space field. It’s one of my favorite areas to run in because A) it is incredibly close to my house and B) there are usually lots of coyotes there! I’ve never had any problems with the coyotes, but there is one that used to run alongside me when I ran at dusk. She would stay well over 100 yards away, but you could tell she had her eye on Tals and me the entire time! And of course, Tally was positive that Ms. Coyote wanted to be her friend! Tally thinks she has a way with wildlife, but in reality, this has just let to multiple vet visits for porcupine quills in the face! Don’t even get me started on the time she chased an entire family of mountain goats away from my tent!

Moving right along…

Another reason I love this area? The view πŸ™‚

Closeup of the mountains

I often go trail running in the mountains, but I’m not always up for the 20 minute drive. This way, I at least get to look at them while Tals pulls me through the field!

In case you’re curious, here is an elevation profile of the route. By Colorado standards, this is definitely a “flat run.”

Wow, that’s awesome about being featured in the Pinterest shoutout! And it’s great seeing your “flat” run! Great idea that you stole πŸ˜‰

Would love to run out there someday. So gorgeous. I live in northern Ohio where it’s pretty darn flat, which is a huge problem when it comes to training for hills…there are none! The good thing, I get to run along Lake Erie. Maybe I’ll have to document my run πŸ˜‰

Congrats on the Pinterest feature. Woot Woot!

My entire family is from Bowling Green– is that by you? My parents were the first ones to leave the nest and come out this way πŸ™‚

You are seriously going to love these shorts! I’ve only run in them twice so I’m reserving my “formal” judgement for a few more runs, but thus far, they are the first shorts that I actually, truly love.

      Finding you on Pinterest now!

Beautiful! Since I usually run in absolute darkness (at 5:45am) a feature like this would be pretty boring on my blog. πŸ™‚

Whew, that is early to run! I get up at 5:30 for work but if I want to run in the am, I’d have to get up in the 4’s. Not willing to do it πŸ™‚

    What a beautiful run/view. I am jealous!

Wow, your run is beautiful! I wish my run had a mountain view!

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

I’ll have to take pics trail running sometimes– those views are breathtaking! (Literally, cause the elevation kills my lungs!)

Besides, you have Faith views! πŸ™‚

that shirt looks exactly like my Columbia Titanium shirt.. which I love. I’m so jealous of your elevation… great mountain climbing prep!

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

Again, I’ve only worn the shirt twice so withholding formal judgement but thus far, I’m a huge fan! The real test will be on a 14er this summer πŸ™‚

  • Reply Wym at

ahhhh! It looks glorious right now. Its warming up in Texas and I may have to do the “steal” as well!

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

I would think warming up for you means lots of indoor, air-conditioned running? Texas heat + humidity in the summer would annihilate me πŸ™‚

  • Reply Jess at

SUCH a gorgeous running route you have!! I may need to double “steal” this blog post idea and do one myself! I love seeing where fellow bloggers spend their time logging those miles!

Looks beautiful! You colorado peeps have all the best places to run. I love my running routes around here, but a few mountain trails would definitely enhance things!

  • Reply Angela @ Happy Fit Mama at

I would love to have a place like that to run in my backyard. I can get to places similar but I have to get in my car and drive first. I always feel funny about that.

I saw Kara’s post last week and thought I’d steal it, too! It’s a great idea so why not share, right??? πŸ™‚

Next time you go up to the mountains to run, do Elk Meadow in Evergreen for me. Before I had kids I used to drive up there all the time for trail running, too, and Elk Meadow was my *favorite.*

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

Is it heavily populated? I love taking Tals trail running but I prefer to have her off leash, and if there are lots of people, I can’t do that. Tally is very behaved, but some people are just sticklers about the dog leash thing and…well… I’m not πŸ™‚

This is a great idea! It totally doesn’t work for me since we run all over the place, my husband gets bored really, really easily! I could document one run though.

Congrats on all of your awesome news lately! I’m on Pinterest too: http://pinterest.com/runnerjamie/

My run used to look like yours when I lived in Fort Collins and Boulder. Now in Laramie it is a lot of street running, unless I drive to some great local trails. I’m on pinterest too: http://pinterest.com/mtnkait

JeffCo Open Space is the best thing about where I live. A three mile run from my apartment, and I’m in the mountains. Love it!

  • Reply Heidi Nicole at

Love the idea! My runs look a lot like yours…a little further from the mountains but yeah, love the scenery I get on my runs!

I have a pinterest account but I rarely use it. It took me a year to really figure out Twitter so I’m assuming I have about another 6+ months before I’m any good at pinterest… http://pinterest.com/runaroundaroo/
