Did You Hear I Graduated?

HOORAY! And yes, I know y’all probably realize I graduated this past weekend because I have been shouting it from the rooftops, via Twitter and Instagram, and all over my Facebook page. Yup, I’m that excited about it!

After finally printing out all 71-pages of that beastly document, I literally ran to the post office and overnighted my thesis to my adviser. I even paid the extra money to certify it and insure it– who cares if it was like a million dollars? I was done with that ridiculously large stack of papers FOREVER!

Since last Thursday, I have been on an “I just graduated!” binge. I’ve been able to justify almost anything by saying, “It’s fine. I just graduated!” I’m now realizing that this needs to wear off at some point, largely for the sake of my wallet. However, it’s been a lot of fun enjoying the freedom and release I feel by not having school looming over me.

How have I celebrated? Glad you asked!

#1: I took Cindy out for dinner. Yes, counter intuitive since I graduated, I know. But my dear friend spent like 6 hours formatting my thesis because I had royally jacked up the pagination and margins. She is quite the tech-savvy woman, and even she said I had made quite the mess. I love my friends!

#2: I’ve been drinking ridiculous amounts of Starbucks. And wine. Not necessarily in that order.

#3: I went shopping. Quite honestly, most of my wardrobe consists of running clothes or outdoor gear, but I do like to actually dress up and go out for dinner/drinks with friends. Unfortunately, I have been so busy lately that this portion of my life has disappeared. I realized I hadn’t purchased any decent clothes in awhile, so I decided to remedy that!

Orange and lace? Always a good combo!

#4: I participated in the Denver Oyster Race. I probably shouldn’t have done this one because of my knee (more on that later) and it did cause quite a lot of pain, but I have wanted to do this adventure race for years! Plus, if I backed out, Cindy and Craig were going to have to find a replacement team member. No bueno. The race was so fun and we had a blast (I’ll recap it next week). Any type of urban adventure that requires beer pong as an obstacle is okay in my book!

#5: I had my graduation party. Technically, my parents threw the party for me, but that’s just semantics. My mom arranged this whole deal on Sunday night, and my close friends and family came over to help me celebrate. Not only was there a ridiculous amount of food, wine and, most importantly, cake, but we also had a rousing game of croquet in their backyard. Nope, I’m not joking at all!

In case you’re curious, I’m pretty awful at croquet. That whole hand-eye coordination thing? I don’t have it.

I also was excited to see some beautiful flowers that my sister sent from Hawaii! She was pretty bummed that she couldn’t make it back to the mainland for the party and to help me celebrate, but she sent some flowers in her place. Not quite as good as sissy being here, but I sure do love me some flowers!

To top it off I get to go do something pretty cool later this afternoon….but I’m not sharing just yet. Is that a good cliffhanger? Are you going to come back and read my blog tomorrow for sure?!

Have you ever played croquet?
Seriously, this set was my dad’s from when he was a kid. Everything is made of wood (include the balls) and has this old-fashioned paint job on it. I love it! The only problem is that the balls were super heavy and impossible to hit farther than two feet (Or maybe that was the wine kicking in…. hard to tell!)
How would you choose to celebrate a big event?

Congratulations on graduating! That’s such an awesome feeling. I celebrate the same way you do–with friends and family! It doesn’t matter what we are doing as long as we are together and enjoying each other’s company.

By the way, I hope you don’t mind my asking, but where did you find the dress? As a Clemson girl, I’m alllllways looking for more orange.
