Just a Colorado Gal

Distractions!!!!!!!!!!

Agh! You’d think since I’m working on my M.Ed I’d be better at knowing how to sequester myself away from distractions, etc.,  when I need to get my studying done but nope, absolutely not. Tomorrow is definitely a library day 🙂

Actually though, I can’t beat myself up too much–I did finish a 13-page paper today that finishes everything up for one of my classes. I still have a lot to finish for my other class by Friday but hey, at least it’s something. I like to be able to check SOMETHING off the list!

Anyway, back to my distractions! The Tour de France is a bad enough distraction for me and it’s all the way over in Europe. But the USA Pro Cycling Challenge?! It is seriously like crack to me.

Calm down, Lindsay…I meant figuratively. Don’t get all excited!

The Pro Cycling Challenge is here in Colorado, and it is so exciting to see such amazing cyclists here at home! They are tackling huge climbs and awesome elevations, and I’ve been looking forward to the race for weeks. I’m very curious to see how many of those guys do, especially since they aren’t used to the altitude. Today was interesting because the stage ends in Crested Butte, which is where I went mountain biking over the 4th of July.  I’ve been watching the live feed all afternoon (while writing papers cause I can multitask like that!) and it’s crazy to watch them fly up the same roads I drove a few months ago. I know tomorrow (I think) that they’re heading up Independence Pass which is so crazy! It’s a beautiful pass outside of Aspen, but it is steep and high!!
On that note, I’ve realized that I’ve got a warped perspective of what’s “high.”

No, no Lindsay…different kind of high. Silly girl.
I’m listening to these announcers talk about the “insane” altitude of Crested Butte, and I’m thinking, what? It’s not that high….it’s only 9,000 feet, give or take. And then I realized I’m a bit warped (I know, shocking). I’m from the good ol’ CO so altitude is not something I’ve really ever thought about. I climb 14ers a lot, and have done some peaks as high as 16,000 feet without feeling too much of a difference. Granted, I have yet to have the opportunity to climb anything higher (Kilimanjaro anyone??!) so who knows if my lungs would just collapse and I’d have to crawl down the mountain in a puddle of shame. Very possible. Either way, 9000 feet? Closer to-two-rather-than-one mile high? That’s high.
In short, I’m crazy 🙂
How about you? Do you handle altitude ok or does it make you feel like you dropped your lung back home?
