Drama Runner

I’ve finally come to terms with it: I am a dramafied runner!

This past weekend was my great return to running. If you remember from last week, I’ve kind of been stressing about my upcoming half marathon. In short, life has gotten hectic and I’m not at all prepared. I decided this weekend was the time to jump back in the running saddle …. and then the bubble burst.

I woke up on Saturday ready and excited to tackle the 8-miler. I noted a small, nagging headache that I had felt all week long, so I decided to give it a bit to subside. Only, it did the opposite and turned into a full blown migraine that crippled me for the entire day. We’ll chat about this later. Needles to say, Saturday was shot.

Then Sunday rolled along. I decided I probably shouldn’t run outside because I didn’t want to get stranded somewhere if the migraine came back. What did this mean? Eight dreaded miles on the treadmill. Ugh. But that was okay: I was feeling tough, I could conquer this!

So, I scampered on down to my apartment’s gym and hopped on treadmill #1.

“ERR 1” message. No bueno.

Hopped on treadmill #2.

“ERR 1” message. No bueno again.

Well, damnit. There are only two treadmills there! I tried to get handy and unplugged them to restart the system, but alas, they still sucked and wouldn’t fix themselves. Sooooooo I was off to 24Hour to enjoy the large bank of treadmills that I KNOW they have!

I finally managed to get on my treadmill, about 400 hours later than planned. And, not gonna lie: I felt very tough when it shut off after an hour and I had to restart it to continue my miles (Of course, that really just means I’m slow as hell, but whatever. I take pride where I can get pride!) Some guy looked at me like I was slightly nuts, but I’m cool with it 🙂

In the end, I DID get my 8 miles in just over 1 hour, 28 minutes. It was kind of slow, but I did walk for 2 minutes, every 2 miles, so I’ll take it. Plus, I got the 8 miles in.

That’s always a victory in my book 🙂

What did you do this weekend?

How do you feel about long distances on treadmills: yay or nay?

OMG, you always have such an event trying to get a run in!!! I don’t know why you even bother going to that gym at your apartment, everything always sounds broken!

Sorry about your migraine!! What a damper.

    How did your feet do?

I don’t mind the treadmill, but even when set on hills, I don’t think they prepare us for real life, since there is a belt actually pulling your foot backwards for you when you land.

Congratulations for conquering your miles on the treadmill! That takes a lot of mental stamina. I usually run about an hour on the treadie but have done longer runs.

I am sorry you had a migraine. That sucks. I hope you are feeling better!

Hate those headaches – I always try to get a run in if I feel one coming on – something about getting the blood pumping tends to help me a lot.
Long distance on treadmills … blech. But a necessary evil where there are no other choices.

    Wow! You are dedicated 🙂

I really despise treadmills, I think the longest we have run on a treadmill is slightly under 8 miles. I prefer outside.

You are certainly one determined lady- and good for you for pushing through!! 🙂
Long treadmill runs? NO THANKS! Even short treadmill runs (though sometimes they are necessary)… I’d much rather run outside of course.
Actually, for me, the best kind of running is trail running. Preferably with one of my dogs. 🙂
Hope that nasty migraine hasn’t come back and stays away!!

I think this counts as you being back on your game – may not have been a perfect run but you definitely played hardcore runner. I’ve never been on a TM long enough for it to shut itself off – I can not make it that far without cutting my own legs off!

That is some serious determination right there! I HATE running on the treadmill so much but unfortunately from time to time its necessary. Nice job getting those miles in!

Bahahahaa! “Of course, that really just means I’m slow as hell, but whatever.” Girl, I love it…because I’ve been there. You rock!

Awesome job getting it in! I used to have no problem doing treadmill runs, but they’ve gotten worse and worse, and now I really try to avoid them if I can… but I am thankful to have the back up when the weather is awful.

I right there with you in the slow on the treadmill depot and I don’t care at all. Miles are miles. ( ; Nicely done on not giving up even when machines were being rude.

Dang girl! That’s commitment to get your running done. Nice job!

Wow, good for you for sticking that out. Pretty sure I would have given up!

Miles (or km, over here) on a treadmill count for more than on the road. Why? Well, how many traffic lights are there to stop at on your treadmill course? How many corners to slow down on, to wait while someone else moves out of your way? I encourage my runners to go hard on the treadmill every so often – an hour on the treadmill is usually worth more than an hour on the road. Just keep it fairly flat though; there are certain muscle groups that get aggravated by a steep but constant incline.

sometimes I like treadmill runs cause you can do a little speedwork on it…but I can only do it if the tv in front of me is working. If not….HELLZ NO

The longest treadmill run I’ve done is 5 miles and it felt like 20! Nice job on your 8! Hope your migraine is better…

I’m impressed you got that run done despite everything working against you! Running that far on the treadmill is no fun, especially if you have to restart it after an hour. I like that I can program my home treadmill to NOT do that. 🙂
