This past weekend was my great return to running. If you remember from last week, I’ve kind of been stressing about my upcoming half marathon. In short, life has gotten hectic and I’m not at all prepared. I decided this weekend was the time to jump back in the running saddle …. and then the bubble burst.
I woke up on Saturday ready and excited to tackle the 8-miler. I noted a small, nagging headache that I had felt all week long, so I decided to give it a bit to subside. Only, it did the opposite and turned into a full blown migraine that crippled me for the entire day. We’ll chat about this later. Needles to say, Saturday was shot.
Then Sunday rolled along. I decided I probably shouldn’t run outside because I didn’t want to get stranded somewhere if the migraine came back. What did this mean? Eight dreaded miles on the treadmill. Ugh. But that was okay: I was feeling tough, I could conquer this!
So, I scampered on down to my apartment’s gym and hopped on treadmill #1.
“ERR 1” message. No bueno.
Hopped on treadmill #2.
“ERR 1” message. No bueno again.
Well, damnit. There are only two treadmills there! I tried to get handy and unplugged them to restart the system, but alas, they still sucked and wouldn’t fix themselves. Sooooooo I was off to 24Hour to enjoy the large bank of treadmills that I KNOW they have!
I finally managed to get on my treadmill, about 400 hours later than planned. And, not gonna lie: I felt very tough when it shut off after an hour and I had to restart it to continue my miles (Of course, that really just means I’m slow as hell, but whatever. I take pride where I can get pride!) Some guy looked at me like I was slightly nuts, but I’m cool with it 🙂
In the end, I DID get my 8 miles in just over 1 hour, 28 minutes. It was kind of slow, but I did walk for 2 minutes, every 2 miles, so I’ll take it. Plus, I got the 8 miles in.
That’s always a victory in my book 🙂
