Elephant Rock Metric Century Ride

Alright guys, let me tell you a story:

Tomorrow is the Elephant Rock metric century ride that I signed up for with my dad. This will be the second year in a row that we’ve ridden the 62-mile course together, and while I am looking forward to it, I am feeling some other emotions as well.

In short? I’m terrified!

You see, I haven’t been doing a whole lot of training on my roadie. And when I say that I haven’t been doing a lot of training, I mean that I haven’t actually been on my road bike since last August. This, my friends, is what we call  A PROBLEM!

62 miles is a lot when I have a long training ride of 20 minutes! Luckily, cycling has always come naturally to me and I am really hoping that I can rely on muscle memory in order to complete this tour. I mean, I spent 4 months riding my bike every single day….will my legs just jump right back into the mix?

My other redeeming thought is that it’s not like I haven’t been working out at all. I’ve been doing a lot of running and hiking and occasional CrossFit workouts, so I feel like my cardio and muscle endurance should be okay. I guess we’ll just consider Elephant Rock a science experiment where I determine whether cross training is really effective?!

********************
Alright, I’m taking a poll: honestly, do you think I’ll be able to finish the entire course tomorrow? Or will I end up sad on the SAG wagon? (And I promise, I won’t get mad if you think I’m gonna croak…right now it’s a 50/50 chance!)

I say you make it – you have the athletic endurance. However, I can’t make any promises about the condition of your rear after 62 miles on a bike…that may make Monday interesting! 😉

I think you got it. PS Phil will be there too!

I’ll keep an eye out for him among the thousands of people 🙂 Just tell him to look for a girl getting her ass handed to her! What course is he riding?

I think if you go in with the idea of having fun and not worrying about the end result, you will surprise yourself and finish

I think you’ll finish. you may not be able to walk for a week but you’ll finish. Good luck!!!

You will finish but your girly bits will hate you. I just busted out a 54 miler today. Monday I rode 23 and before that….can’t remember. Sometime last summer. Anyway, I finished and my legs feel great but I put on a skirt after my shower because the thought of even wearing loose shorts made me tear up a little bit. If I could get away with going commando I would do it. I’m shopping for a new saddle on Monday.

Have fun with your Dad! You will do great!

Aghhhh!! You’re totally right 🙂 Luckily, I spent a lot of time a few years ago shopping for this saddle so theoretically, it’s comfortable….but we all know that this is gonna hurt the lady parts!
