When Will and I made our relationship “Facebook Official,” it was a big deal. Many likes came from that status update! And then, when we were engaged, people excitedly told us how fun it was that we were “Facebook official,” like that was some rite of passage.ย The Book of Face means some business!
For years, people have asked me why my blog doesn’t have a Facebook page. I had many reasons: I’m all over social media, I don’t need another platform, that’s too many social media arenas to manage, and what about the new algorithm that prevents followers from seeing your posts anyway? But finally, I had a chat with a friend who is a social media strategist and he confirmed what y’all have been telling me for eons. And with that, Just A Colorado Gal stepped into the 21st century and finally has a Facebook page!ย ย {Yes, I’m aware I’m roughly 15 years behind everyone else!}
It’s a whopping 7 days old so I’m still figuring out this whole process. I can tell you that I will be sharing lots of photos and daily adventures that don’t make it onto my site since they don’t warrant entire posts. For example, I spent this past weekend skiing some insane powder at Breckenridge, but aside from being ridiculously fun, there wasn’t much to tell. But the photos? Very cool and those went up on my new page this morning!
If you’re interested in connecting on my newly-acquired Book of Face page, hop on over and give me a like. In addition to the fun photos, you’d make me feel like I have friends, which is always appreciated!

This totally explains why we hadn’t liked your page before on Facebook. I was so confused when it popped up.
I agree with you, why have another thing but it’s a necessary evil.
Ha, yeah, many people have assumed I had a page just because my blog has been around forever…I’m just an old curmudgeon who avoided FB forever ๐ Thanks for following!
I was at Breck too on Saturday! So much fun and a great day! I only did one run on peak 6. I couldn’t see in front of me at the top so I stayed on peak 10 for most of the day. Do you have the epic local pass?
Yeah, the vis at the top of 6 was a nightmare, but if you stayed far skier’s left, it was just a meadow of powder that dropped down into some awesome tree runs. That’s where both of these photos were taken! And no, we have the Rocky Mountain Super Pass. My friend has the Epic, and since it was her birthday, we paid for lift tickets so we could celebrate her 40th with her ๐
haha i get this! after 6 years of blogging, i just created a FB page for me too!
We’re in this together then! PS How are you liking the vivofit?
I have to laugh because I’ve had to gain the few followers I have on Facebook over the past few yrs and just a few days in you’re about to surpass my numbers. Oh facebook, you elude me =)
Psssh friend, I’m WAY off where you are! The interaction thing is tricky…I can definitely see the algorithm stuff working!
It’ll be interesting to see where FB pages go – it would be nice if they became paid and then posts were shown to all the followers of the page, but apparently that’s not what FB is interested in.
You know, I tend to agree. Since I didn’t have a page in the past, this new tactic hasn’t angered me like it has so many other people with pages. From my perspective, OF COURSE Facebook is going to want you to pay to boost posts– why would they help you promote yourself without anything it it for them? They are a business, after all. But I think your idea is even better– make each page pay a flat rate every month and that ensures that every follower sees your stuff like they used to. With all of their users, the monthly rate wouldn’t even need to be that much. I could see as little as $25/month. But sigh. I don’t get to run the business at FB, and they definitely didn’t ask my opinion!
Welcome to facebook! Glad to be following your Colorado adventures!
Thanks for the follow Sandra! I’m open to any tips you have for me!
That’s too funny! I gave into pressure when I spoke to a marketing expert who had a client interested in working with me until they heard my social media numbers. I literally started my first page yesterday. I’ll have to do a post like this for my followers. I’ve liked your page!
Haha that’s how I was a few years ago! I started my blog because I liked writing. Period. But then, blogging gave way to the realm of social media and I realized I needed to hang with social media in order for the writing component to be successful. I was SO anti-Twitter for the longest time and finally signed up for an account in December, 2011 (I think). I quickly realized the benefit but there was a large part of me that felt like I sold my soul ๐ Thanks for the follow!
As someone who is finding less and less time to read blogs (although your’s always makes the cut ;)), I love blog Facebook pages! And I super loved seeing the Breck pictures yesterday. The powder looked great!
Thanks Natalie! I agree– sometimes FB is an easy way to skim material if you don’t have the time. The downside, of course, is that Facebook doesn’t push a lot of stuff into the feed, making people have to actively search it out. Will is noticing that nothing I post pops up on his feed, so he has to literally go to my new page…and I’m marrying the guy! Regardless, thanks for checking it out– I’ll try to keep the photos comin’! PS GLad you had such a wonderful time in the Boat!
Lol all the social media to-dos! I definately focus less on FB but I do think it is good to have so I am glad to see you on there and just gave you a like. Have a great day, Heather!
Thanks Hayley!
Congrats times two!
Now I shall head over and give your page a ‘like’!
MAZEL TOV (as my people say :-))
Ha, thanks Carla!
