I went boom today. My dad went boom today. Clearly, today was not a day for riding on two wheels.
I headed up to Red Rocks with Cindy, Craig, Uncle Craig, and Timmy to do some mountain biking. I thought we had agreed on a “light and mellow” ride but that was apparently a figment of my imagination. We parked at Matthews/Winters Park and decided to do Dakota Ridge Trail and connect up with the Red Rocks Trail. You can check it out here. Anyway, Dakota Ridge is not mellow, nor is it easy. It started with a brutal climb which I was okay with, but the rest of the ridge was pretty technical single track. I enjoy doing some technical rides, but it definitely isn’t my area of expertise. That’s code for, “I suck at staircases and boulder fields.” Needless to say, I just didn’t have it today and was toppling everywhere! Took a few good ones that have left some awesome bruises on my legs…can’t wait to see what they look like tomorrow 🙂
Btw, sorry about my pictures…I can’t figure out why my camera just won’t focus on anything anymore!
Cindy knows her limits…smart lady 🙂
Anyway, came back and decided to have a mellow night on the couch with True Blood to nurse my wounds. Log onto crackbook (aka Facebook) and see my dad’s fb status: he apparently crashed on his roadie today and my mom had to take him to the ER! Holy hell! Actually just got off the phone with him and he is okay..relatively speaking. Long story short, he ended flipping a few times, off the road and into the ditch. Totally jacked his bike, bent his handlebars, derailleur, cogs, everything. At the ER they told him that nothing was broken, but get this–they said he has an improperly healed collarbone from when he broke it a long time ago. The weird part? He never knew he had broken his collarbone! Crazy. They told my mom to keep an eye on him for the next few days to monitor swelling in case he tore anything…but geesh.
Moral of this story? Stay off any form of bicycle on July 17.
Have you ever crashed your bike? Anything big and huge and terrifying?
I’m pretty lucky–I fall all the time on my mtn bike but never any huge crashes, and I’ve never (knock on wood!) had any bad spills on my roadie, including when I lived on it for 4 months…..I hope I’m not jinxing myself!!!
