A Few of My Favorite Things

Nope, not Oprah. And nope, I wasn’t in The Sound of Music. However, there are a few things that I have just been loving lately, and thought I’d share!

1. Make It or Break It

Source

Guys, I’m obsessed with this show. It’s on Netflix streaming and I watched the first two seasons months back. The third season doesn’t start till this Spring, so naturally, I’m watching the first two seasons again! Although some of the Boulder shots are very clearly NOT Boulder, I love the adolescent gymnastics drama!

2. Dry Shampoo

Holy cow, how did I survive without dry shampoo?! My hair lady told me that I washed my hair too much (daily) so I went on the prowl for dry shampoo a few months back. I found some other, awesome kinds that worked really well but they were super expensive. I mean, some were like $20-$30 and considering I go through the stuff every two weeks or so, that was kind of pricey. I found this got2b brand at WalGreens and am in love πŸ™‚ And $5.99 a bottle definitely beats $20!

3. Shabby Apple Necklace

I won this Shabby AppleΒ necklace a few weeks back and I have worn it a ton! The detail on the feather is very intricate and I really like the natural look of the design. It goes with everything too, which I am totally taking advantage of since I am fashion-challenged!

4. Oakley Running Sunglasses

iPhone photo, NOT for the win.

I mentioned that my sis got me a pair of new running sunglasses for my birthday, and I have gotten the chance to try them out this week. Soooooo much better running in these than it was in my other pair! They stay on my nose, don’t bounce around, and completely keep my eyes protected from the hot Colorado sun. I’ve owned Oakleys before but I think this pair is my fav πŸ™‚

5. The Maze Runner Trilogy

I’d heard that this trilogy was a must-read for anyone who loved the Hunger Games (which I did!) and thus far, I totally agree! I can tell that the books were probably written for a teenage audience, but the content is almost equally as dark and it is definitely futuristic. Again, it also has the same survival theme that was obvious in the Hunger Games. I just finished the second book this week and have yet to begin the final one, but I already am hyping the books to anyone who will listen.

I’ll have to download those books for my nook – I’m desperately seeking a new series to read! Thanks for the tip!

If you liked Hunger Games, you should like them– they have more mystery to them also, which is equally frustrating and awesome at the same time πŸ™‚

I need to check out those books, instead of reading the Hunger Games for the third time. Or maybe both. I love the necklace!

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

I might re-read HG after I finish these series…or maybe I’ll read about rainbows. Probably should lay off the death and dark books!

I haven’t tried dry shampoo, but I’ve been curious. Thanks for the review!

I’m loving bright colors. The spring flowers in my yard have inspired my clothing choices lately.

So i am convinced we should be BFF’s. I am counting down the days until MIOBI comes back on, I am obsessed with my dry shampoo and my news oakley running sunglasses, AND I am on book two of the maze runner trilogy!!!

I love posts like these–a great way to get exposure to cool stuff. Love your Oakley’s! And with my flat, thin hair, I should probably be investing in some dry shampoo!

totally with you. i am also 30 and obsessed with Make it or break it and the Maze Runner! only a few more weeks till Hunger Games comes out πŸ™‚

I must read the book series. I loved Hunger Games well at least the first one. I am too cheap to buy the next two because they aren’t in paper back yet.

I love the sunglasses. I would call them practical chic!

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

Major self control on your part! I literally had to restrain myself from jumping out of bed and heading to the store at midnight when I finished books 1 and 2 of HG!!

  • Reply Ali Mc at

I am still running in “fashion glasses” what is wrong with me πŸ˜› lol and I need to read hunger games first. I want to know the story!!!

and I also have fun less fun faster or whatever it is on my list too!

I swear, get a pair! I love my Armani’s but yeah, not for outdoor activities πŸ™‚ Surprised it took me this long to get a better pair!

Yes! Thank you for the recommendation!

I have to wash my hair every day. Does the dry shampoo REALLY get the job done? If so, I’ll have to check it out. I have the best sunglasses to run in, made my Under Armour. I got them on clearance a few years ago from a running store. They do not budge when I run!

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

Yes, I swear! Especially this kind. I have fairly oily hair too, and I use this stuff in between and now can wash my hair every other day. I mean, it doesn’t necessarily look perfect, but it is AWESOME. Seriously!

I have been reading “A song of fire and ice” series, otherwise known as “A game of thrones”. The first installment is by far the best book I have ever read. It is 800+ pages of pure entertainment. And on top of all that it is already been made into an HBO series (seen the first episode, not as good as the book but still more entertaining then most out there)…if you are even a smidgin interested in a good read…pick it up!

Very nice fish face for the Oakley photo! I may have to check out that show. It sounds like a good one!

I was my hair twice a day sometimes depending on if I work out. I’ve never tried the dry shampoo thing. But my hair gets nasty fast. But I hate showers. It’s a double-edged sword.

I loved Maze Runner! The third book was just “eh” for me but overall I loved the series. So good!

  • Reply Ricole at

I LOVE Make it or Break it! I’m crazy for gymnastics! I thought the Mazerunner books were pretty mediocre but I’m glad you (and others!) like them. Let’s chat when you’re done. πŸ™‚ Have you read Matched? That’s another series that reminded me of Hunger Games.

    • Reply Heather @ Just a Colorado Gal at

I will admit that they can be a little oddly written, but the story line intrigues me– we’ll see what I think after the last one πŸ™‚ I’ll let you know! I haven’t read Matched, but I’ll add it to the list! Thanks!!

Wrote down the name of the book! My son, his girlfriend and I all enjoyed the Hunger Games after you recommended them.

Thai food (attempted to make it myself for the first time tonight), and Outkast radio on Pandora while running. πŸ™‚

  • Reply Katie @ Will Race for Carbs at

Oooh, thanks for the book review. I just finished a book and have been having trouble finding another. I liked the Hunger Games too so I should give these a try. And I wash my hair everyday too. That’s too much? It seems like that should be the bare minimum, right?? Maybe I should give dry shampoo a go too.

The fish face makes the glasses… πŸ™‚

I loooooooove dry shampoo! I’m leaving for Poland tomorrow and just went and got a brand new bottle today….my hair does not play nice drying naturally and using the converters are such a pain!

  • Reply irunonpbandk at
