Just a Colorado Gal

First World Problems & Giveaway Winner

Whew.

I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but this past week was the opening of our company for the season. What does this mean? Back to work for Heather!

Bulbs are starting to pop!

I know, whining about returning to work after three months off is most definitely classified as a first world problem, but there you have it! There are zillions of benefits of managing a family business and I frequently rave about them, but this week reminded me of how tough it can be too. Although it’s still slow season for a few more weeks, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes stuff that we have needed to take care of, and I have found myself exhausted every single night this week. I even bailed on a rock climbing date with a friend last night because I was too darn tired! Who am I?!

Whining aside, I’m pretty psyched for this weekend. Why do you ask? Because I am taking an avalanche course! Over Thanksgiving, Will and I signed up for an Avalanche 1 course with a local company called Apex Ex. I’ve dabbled in backcountry skiing over the past few years, but had never taken a course because I didn’t own the ski gear that would lead to me riding hard in the backcountry. However, Will obviously knew what he was getting me for Christmas (ahem! these beautiful skis!), so we signed up for the course when we saw this insane Groupon. Instead of the regularly priced $299 course, we got it for $125 each. Score!

We rented a cabin up at the YMCA camp in Estes Park. As bizarre as that may sound, it totally strikes a sentimental cord with me. My parents used to rent a cabin up there and my family would spend weekends in Estes when I was a kid. We’d go hiking, ice skating, and exploring, and some of my favorite memories are from these cabins. As soon as I read that the av course took place in Rocky Mountain National Park, I knew we had to book a cabin at the YMCA. It’s located right outside of the entrance and it’s totally going to bring me down memory lane!

Before I forget, the winner of the Albion Fit long sleeved top is Kayla from KPLovingIt!

I actually know Kayla in real life—I met her and her husband at a mutual friend’s wedding a few years ago, and she even came on our hut trip this year! Kayla, shoot me an email with your address and size, por favor 🙂
