Fun Facts for Friday

Happy Friday!

I don’t know about y’all, but I am so ready for the weekend! Not that I get to do anything fun — studying all weekend — but it’s nice to at least know that I don’t need to go in for work!

Ok, so I was trying to think of the best way to detail all of the randomness that was my day yesterday, but truly, I’m not that good. So, I’m making a list!

1. I got my hair cut!

I know, not so exciting but it feels so much better! You see, I’ve had pretty much every hair style and/or cut known to man. Lest you forget: back in my dancing days, I signed a contract turning my hair over to the team’s salon, and they took full advantage of that privilege! Because of that, I have not touched hair dye in 7 years, and don’t see that changing. Occasionally, I will think about how fun it would be to change it up, but then I remember the mass of straw that used to be my hair…. I’ll stick with what I’ve got going on now 🙂

2. I took Tals for a walk yesterday, and a random wildebeest attacked me! And no, I never exaggerate.

Well, it was really a dog,but whatever…. felt like the same animal! Tally and I were walking down the path when I leaned over to pet an oncoming dog that seemed super sweet. Out of nowhere, the dog snarled and lunged at me!

Luckily, I have ninja-like reflexes and dodged his pointy little teeth, but his claws still got me in the chest. Of course, Tally didn’t like this one bit and she went after the dog and all hell broke loose. I gave the dog owner my most evil stare and dragged my snapping dog away.

Apparently, I am not the dog whisperer I thought I was.

3. I had my first track practice for the Special Olympics!

I don’t remember if I told y’all this, but awhile back I signed up to be a volunteer track coach for the local chapter of the Special Olympics. Last night was the first practice, and I had such a great time!

From what I can tell, the team consists of roughly 10 different peeps with varying ages and disabilities. We will practice for 8 weeks and then finish up with a big track competition. Yesterday was spent with a few laps running/walking on the track, as well as different exercises like high knees, butt kicks, and wind sprints.

And then this storm rolled in:

The girl I was working with was especially interested in the storm and kept detailing the progress of the rain clouds 🙂 Luckily, it held out until just after we finished up, but it did mean that I didn’t get to do my own track workout afterwards like I had planned. Sigh. Maybe next week!

Dang, that sounds like a mean dog! At least Tals had your back, my dog doesn’t do that. She’s just not smart enough to realize what’s going on. I had Dobermans growing up though, so I always expect her to at least act like she cares, but then I realize hounds just love everyone. 🙂

Tals has my back a little TOO much! She hates the UPS man just because he dares knock on my door, and she doesn’t allow anyone unknown within 20 feet of me! Great for safety, not great for general public appeal 🙂

That’s awesome that you are volunteering there! I should look into that. This is exactly why I steer clear of ALL dogs, regardless of whether or not their owners are like “oh, he would never hurt you!”.

Yikes, that dog scratch looks vicious! Glad it wasn’t any worse

Fact: I was supposed to get up and run this morning but I didn’t. I’m apparently good at rationalizing while sleepy.

That dog scratch looks vicious! I hope you gave the owner a SUPER mean look, and maybe an angry fist-shake!

I’m glad you are alright!! Our dog, Bernie, would have probably done the same thing as Tally! He is a little too vicious when it comes to people though, that’s the Chow Chow in him.

I love that you are working with the Special Olympics, you are going to have a great time!!

oh no. I’m glad you and the pup are safe. That’s always the worst and sadly, we always have to be on guard with other dogs off the leash. It’s fantastic that you are volunteering for SO. Now we just need to get you to become a Storm Whisperer.

Yikes – so scary about the dog! So neat that you are volunteering to be a track coach, I hope you post more about that later, I’d love to read about your experiences.

Random fact about today: I apparently need child-safe scissors. I was out pruning our flower garden and sliced the crap out of my finger. And second skin hurts when you put it on, fyi!

  • Reply Neon Blonde Runner at

OOh my gosh, looks like that dog had quite the claws. Perhaps it was a mini wildebeest!

LOVE that you’re helping to coach the special olympics, that just made me super happy, wish they had a program like that around here…

And I love the contrast of that giant black cloud in the sky, up against the blue sky, beautiful!

I love this too 🙂 and I forgot to say nice hair!

  • Reply Ali Mc at

Rex is like tals – great unless another crazed dog comes our way. It’s like in an instant I lose all my Cesar Millan skills and the fact that I’m yelling SHHHT while “mock biting” just doesn’t work 😛 lol

Tis the season for afternoon rain storms and those were some wicked clouds yesterday.

    Yikes on the dog!

Special olympics volunteering sounds great! What an awesome thing to do!

Cute hair! How scary about the dog – I guess you never know.

From stormy to scary to hairy – you had it all Friday! Exercise saved your life! Do you like my logic about your fast reflexes from being active allowed you to get away from the lunging dog. http://funandfit.org/2012/04/treadmill-walking-workout/#comments

How come the owner didn’t tell you not to pet it or watch out? And the owner didn’t do anything about his dog? That’s terrible. I am glad you are okay.

Well you haircut is super cute.

I just found your blog today from Run to Finish’s blog. I’m an elementary special ed teacher. I’ve not had the opportunity to help with Special Olympics, but it’s something that I would like to do some day. That’s great that you’re able to do that. 🙂

So thankful your inner ninja protected you and Tals! That’s scary. Cooper has leash anxiety with big dogs so I always have to pull him off to the side. really he just wants to play!

    Your hair looks awesome!!

Your hair looks great! Ouch, those scratches look like they really hurt.
