Just a Colorado Gal

Girlfriend Night at the Gym

You know what I’ve decided is one of my favorite things? I’ll tell you–gals night at the gym!

Let me start by explaining that my two closest girlfriends and I have very different work schedules: weekends, nights, Mon-Friday; you name it, we have it. Because of this, we’ve realized that we need to be creative in our efforts to get together each week and catch up on life….and what better way to do that then by killing two birds with one stone!

We decided that we’d meet up one night per week at the gym, usually for a class. Sometimes it’s the strength/cardio class, sometimes it’s spin, and often times it is Body Pump. Either way, it is so nice to know you’re meeting some friends there, and it’s even better when you feel like bailing on the workout (like I was wanting to last night!) You won’t bail on your friends, right?!

Even better? My girls make me laugh. There is nothing funnier than looking up in bp class and realizing that one of them is so tired that they unevenly loaded their plates for squats, with twice the weight on one side as is on the other……or watching the other one stumble around on the step during Step and Strength because she absolutely cannot figure out the proper steps in the right order (this is often accompanied by the occasional f-bomb, naturally!) Of course, this often leads to me laughing — out loud — in the middle of the class because it’s too damn funny for me to keep it in.

And then we go eat dinner and drink a beer to counteract everything we just did. Again, you wouldn’t break tradition, right?!

Know what else I did yesterday? I made a new playlist! It occurred to me the other day that I’ve been running to the same music for awhiiiiiiiiile. Like, I knew every song and beat that was coming up, and let me tell you–that makes for a boring playlist! Anyway, the weird part is that I am a rocker chick. My fam always makes fun of me cause they say my preferred music often sounds like “noise” or “screaming.” I like all kinds, of course, but rock is def my favorite…until last night, apparently!

Yes, that’s right. You do see MmmmBop on there! I seriously have no idea where this playlist came from, but right now I’m really enjoying it. It’s very pop-py, which I’m typically not, but the new beats and rhythms have me literally grinning while running. I figure that’s not a bad thing! It also made me realize that I should branch out more often with music while running– clearly I enjoy it!
