Just a Colorado Gal

How do people work 12 months of the year?

Ha, I know, totally spoiled!! I am totally getting used to having these 3 months off, and luckily this year, I am able to take advantage of it. How you ask? First of all, we are headed up to Glenwood tonight for our hut trip! HOORAY! I learned my lesson from last year and a bunch of us got a hotel tonight so that we don’t have to do the 3am leaving Denver bit tomorrow. It was brutal 🙂 Super excited and definitely psyched to have the hut to ourselves this time around. I have to admit though, that I am a little nervous about the snow. I looked at the avalanche warnings and the hike-in danger is at a level 2 or 3 which is pretty high. We have our beacons and probes, but the combo of hard, packed snow that has been sitting for weeks with the fresh stuff that is supposedly falling as I type should make for an interesting combo. If its anything like last year, I’m not worried. Hooray for Margy’s Hut!!!

Secondly, and perhaps even MORE exciting is that it looks like I am going to Egypt! YAHOO! My parents travel every winter for a month and it looks like they are doing Egypt this year. I couldn’t afford a month, but Brad and I decided to head over for just a week to see the sights. I have to say, his pilot benefits are definitely helping on this one 🙂 I know a week is not even close to enough time to see an entire country, but Steve said 10 days was too much for him….so I guess we’ll see. On the agenda thus far? I was thinking Cairo to see the pyramids at Giza (of course!), the Egyptian museum, and of course, the city itself. Then, I think we are gonna try to head over to the Sinai peninsula to Dahab to do some snorkelling/diving and climb Mt. Sinai. No, I am not religious but I think it will be kinda cool still to stand on top of the mountain that Moses supposedly gave his Ten Commandments from (The pic above is the 3,750 “steps of pentitence” that go up the mountain. I think we are taking the camel trail!) Besides, I guess the peninsula is mostly a Bedouin area which I think will be kinda neat. Lastly, and of course, we are going to head down to Luxor to see the East and West Banks and the Valley of the Kings. There is so much more that I would like to see, but I have to get back before class!

Ok, totally stalling cause I haven’t packed for the hut trip yet and I have to pick up my AT gear….so I’m out like a trout! I’ll post pics when I get back!!! 🙂
