Ok, so I know I said I was going to recap this past weekend’s backpacking trip and I’ll get there…just not today!
If you’ve read my blog for awhile, you likely remember that I went to Haiti last January with Mission 29.2, a non-profit that organizes 29.2 mile running races in developing countries as a means to raise money for the local education system. The experience was unbelievable and I was so excited to return for the January, 2014 trip.
But, unfortunately, life happens and I’m not going to be able to make this next visit.
As I already told y’all, I have some elaborate weddings coming up in 2014, including Bali, Steamboat, and my newly-engaged sister’s wedding in Hawaii. As much as I would love to travel to all of the weddings plus Haiti, it just isn’t in the budget, you know? I know Haiti will be there for me next year, but it still really hurt to make the decision. Big kid problems and such.
However, it does mean that Mission 29.2 has some available spots for this year’s trip! Basically, it costs each participant $650 + airfare for the entire week. Additionally, you are asked to fundraise some money that will then be donated to Institution Univers, a local private school that also feeds and houses the volunteers for the week. It is a fantastic school and it is so cool to actually see where your hard-earned donations are actually going. If you’re curious or interested in participating in the trip, shoot me a comment or an email and I’ll get you hooked up with the appropriate people.
You know you want to!
The Giveaway
Back when I was actively fundraising for the Haiti trip, I had communicated with my generous contact at Road Runner Sports about helping me out with a donation of shoes or dollars. In addition to all of that good stuff, she gave me a $100 gift card to Road Runner to raffle off to people that donated to my Haiti fund. Well, obviously, I don’t have a Haiti fund anymore, but the RR Sports peeps were kind enough to let me giveaway the gift card anyway!
Want to win the $100 gift card to Road Runner? Check out the Rafflecopter below. Giveaway closes on Monday, November 4, and I will track down the winner afterwards. Good luck!

Awesome Giveaway! Thanks! And sorry you can’t make the trip again this year 🙁
Sorry about your cancelled trip – it will be that much better when you do go.

I would purchase Saucony Ride’s if they have them! They are my go to running shoe!
I’d buy new sneakers for me, maybe another pair of Tom’s for my kids. My kids love Tom’s and I love how they donate a pair for each pair you buy.

Bras! Sadly, I need them very bad.
That trip sounds like it was an amazing experience! I’m just getting back into running, so with the giftcard I’d buy some running shoes, more appropriate for the cold weather that’s coming.
I would buy more compression shorts. Such a great program you participated in in Haiti!

My family is in desperate need of running shoes. Both my husband and I are long past due.

bummer about not being able to make your trip! do you think they’d still want gently used running shoes? i’ve been holding on to my old pair 🙂 if not, i can find a local organization to donate to – just want them to go somewhere more useful than the garbage!
I would get a new pair of sneakers! Or running tights!
I have been wanting both running sunglasses (ok, so just sports sunglasses would be fine) and/or a running hat. All the cool kids had these at the last race I did. I’m convinced that squinting uses necessary energy during a half! I would get these with the card!
Sad to hear about your trip being canceled. Cool that RR Sports is still letting the raffle happen. I love that store.
I’d buy some warm running clothes for this winter!! I live in Denver – we’re neighbors!

I’m sorry you can’t make the trip this year, but life does happen some time! Hopefully, someone else can take your spot and have a positive impact like you’ve done!
I might go the accessory route: white calf sleeves (for summertime running), gaiters, Buff (most underrated and under-used piece of gear) and some Honey Stingers (new addiction).
Thanks for the great giveaway, Heather!
Socks and shoes, of course!
Bummer you can’t get to Haiti, but you’re right it will be there next year (and those weddings sound like lots of fun)!
A girl can never have too many pairs of shoes.
I have a flipping list of things I want from RRS this Winter but I’d probably start with some trail running shoes 🙂
Shoes!
Thank you so much for this giveaway!
I’d love a heart rate monitor.
I’d buy a big ol’ pair of walking shoes. My feet have expanded since I’ve been preggo and my running shoes are really uncomfortable – even though they’re already a full size bigger.
I really need a nice jacket and long sleeve shirts. Thanks for the giveaway! Sorry you are unable to go back this year. Maybe next?
I would purchase new shoes for training and to run in for my next half marathon in January.
Shoes! I’m due to replace my Mizuno Wave Riders….I’d either sign up for the Riders again…..or check out Wave Sayonara or some Altras!
Such a bummer about your trip! Sorry you had to make that choice.
If I won, I’d hope to spend a chunk of it on some really good gloves…my hands are always freezing during winter runs, no matter how many layers of gloves I wear.
I would purchase some winter-weight tights and a long sleeved running shirt! Running in the winter is COLD!
Sorry to hear that you can go to Haiti again, but kudos for RRS for still letting you raffle off their gift card! I’d love to use it to buy some cold weather running gear.
It would have to be a pair of Reebok’s or Inov-8’s…either for “fun” or for CrossFit! I’d LOVE to try the Nano Speeds. =)
I would definitely be stocking up on cold running gear. The cold is coming quick here in NC and I need to get prepared to put in those miles no matter what 🙂
I would get the updated Saucony ride 6. Thanks for the giveaway!
Ooh, this mama needs new shoes.
So sorry that you can’t go on your trip this time around. So disappointing.
I’m barefoot and poor, and I need new shoes!
Wow that Mission 29.2 sounds amazing. I wish I could afford to go but I already have been pricey plans in 2014 as well but this is something I will still look into for another time! I would buy everything I could lol. Shoes, clothes, nutrition! I need it all 🙂
I would buy the latest Brooks Adrenaline shoes. I’ve seen ads for the 14 and I can’t wait to get my feet in them!
Great giveaway! Bummer that you can’t make the trip 🙁
Probably some new running gear!

I need some new stretchy pants really bad!
P.S. That stinks you had to cut one of your trips out, but I’m totally not feeling bad for all your plans!! 🙂

Love RRS! Definitely another pair of shoes (and a donation to Mission 29.2).
Amazing giveaway! I would buy some of the RRS running apparel. I think they have super cute high quality gear!

I’m not sure what I would get- there are so many things I want. New shoes? Compression socks? A bosu ball? It’s a tough decision!
I’d like to give my sister the giftcard for the holidays! I am sure she would love a GPS watch!
I would purchase some new Reebok Nanos!!!
I’m training for my first ultra, the miles are adding up and the shoes are breaking down! I would buy a new pair of Mizuno Wave Elixirs.
I would purchase a pair of reebok nanos or something similar. A coworker and I vowed to each other that the only way we will make it through our next project and to justify eating the crap we are eating is to start crossfit together. It scares the heck outta me since I have zero upper body strength but I at least know I can’t walk in there in my running shoes.
Sorry you can’t go on your trip! Awesome giveaway!
Sorry you can’t go on your trip! Awesome giveaway! I would get new running shows.

Awesome giveaway! I’d buy my first pair of compression socks with these and something for my mom who just started running this year.
my training partner could really use some new shoes – so i’d get something for him!
I’d buy a replacement pair of Merrell Trail Gloves. My current pair have been shredded over the summer.
If I won this, then I’d feel like I was stealing from third world orphans. I guess I can live with that.
Thought definitely crossed my mind too. Fortunately, I was able to raise over $500 for them this year (thanks Columbia!) even though I’m not going, so at least I was still able to help 🙂
Bummer about your trip 🙁 I am in need of some winter running gear (a long sleeve drifit and a jacket) and would use the gift card for that!

I love RRSports (VIP is an awesome deal) and knowing that they make donations such as what they did here to help out your fundraising? Even better. So sorry to hear that the trip is on hold for you, but hopefully you will be able to make it work when you are at a point when you can really out your whole self into the experience. 🙂 I’d put the $ towards a new pair of my $$$ Newtons, which my feet love but my credit card does not.
Heart rate monitor!
I would buy a new pair of running shoes for my upcoming winter track season.
I would buy a pair of bike shorts for spin class and running capris! Thanks for the giveaway offer!
