Every time autumn rolls around, I fall back into love with apples. Something about the crunchy leaves and cooler temps makes me really, really want to buy apples…. but then, I get them home and don’t really feel liking eating raw apples. I did this yesterday and decided that I needed to make SOMETHING with my newly purchased bag o’ apples!
Insert: Crockpot applesauce!
I don’t really cook unless it involves my crockpot. I’m lazy and love that I can throw a bunch of stuff inside and get a meal a couple of hours later. I decided to follow a similar plan with my apples and hope that the applesauce turned out tasty!
Ingredients:
10 apples
1/2 cup of water
1/2 – 3/4 cup brown sugar
1-2 T cinnamon
1-2 T chia seeds
Step 1: Peel, core and slice the apples. I left some of the peel on (again, it is too much effort to get ALL the peel off!) I left half the apples cut in slices and chopped the other half in smaller bits.
Step 2: Put the apples in the crockpot with the water, brown sugar, cinnamon, and chia seed. I only used 1/2 C of brown sugar, but you can vary it, depending on how sweet you prefer your applesauce.
Sidenote: Obvi, you don’t have to use chia seeds but since I put them in everything, why not in applesauce?!
Step 3: Stir everything together really well. Cook in the crockpot on high for 4 hours.
Step 4: Remove apples and mash to desired consistency. Since I like chunky applesauce, I left a lot of chunks and even preferred the bits of apple peel. If you prefer your applesauce smooth, you could probably put the cooked apples in a blender to mash it up nice and clean.
Step 5: Eat it all in two days. Because yes, this also happened! (PS It tastes REALLY good when it’s warm with vanilla ice cream!)

If you like pears, you can do the exact same thing to make pearsauce
I think I’d ONLY eat that with ice cream!!!
P.S. I sliced some apples last night, cooked them on the stove with a little butter and cinnamon, and put them on a salad with honey roasted pecans……and it was amazing. (Just in case you were looking for other ways to eat your cooked apples!!)
isn’t this the best meal ever? It was so easy to make! I love slow cooker meals. I actually just made soup in the crockpot yesterday!(:
Making some with the kids on Friday. Thanks for the idea and recipe.

I love making crockpot applesauce, must say I never thought to add chia seeds, genius idea!
Wow that’s a pretty simple recipe! Thanks for sharing!
I love my crockpot. I’d make three meals a day in it if it didn’t take so long.
Usually when I make applesauce it’s real quick in the microwave so I can use it to bake. I’m not really a fan of eating applesauce by itself.
Thanks for the recipe. If it tastes as it looks. I have definitely to try it out.
