I Spent All My Money

Do you ever have those morning when you wake up and absolutely cannot wake up?! I’m having one of those days today. I meant to head straight to the gym but I am barely functioning. Caffeine, you are my friend ๐Ÿ™‚

So guess what I have done this week? Spent a lot of money! Monday, to be specific, was the day of hemorrhaging cash, but it was all for a good cause: running!

First of all, remember how I announced that 2012 was going to be the year I become a runner?ย That plan is in full effect! I know myself pretty well, and I know that if I don’t register for an event really early, the training will not happen. I’m not one of those lucky souls that will train for an unregistered event. Instead, I’ll bail on workouts and then, eventually, bail on the race. No bueno.

So, to counter this internal laziness, I always register for races like 49 weeks in advance. It’s how I roll. And I did just that on Monday!

If you remember, I recently decided to run my first marathon this year. I actually hopped online this past weekend to register, but I saw that the Rock ‘n Roll series offers $13 off registrations when you register on the 13th of the month. Conveniently, that date was this week, so I waited till Monday and I registered for my first marathon! Scary!!ย

Amazing photo quality, I know….but screenshot was failing me ๐Ÿ™‚

And then, to add a little fuel to the fire, I wandered over to the Georgetown Half Marathon that my mom is doing and I registered for that too! (For anyone looking for a cheap race, this half is only $36. I thought that was awesome!) Mom registered also, so we are both in!

So, in the span of 10 minutes, I locked myself into some serious mileage! If you take a look at my “Races” tab, you’ll see that I have a few events lined up for the summer. For me, this is a lot because I know, inevitably, I’ll still be doing my mountain biking and hiking this summer. It’ll be a lot, but I’m excited for it ๐Ÿ™‚

Know what else? After registering for those events, the debit card did not go back into my wallet. Nope, instead it found it’s way over to Amazon and– gasp!– purchased a Kindle Fire! I actually did this yesterday because I decided that I deserved a Valentine’s Day gift. I’m single so I knew that one wasn’t showing up at my door, so I decided to take matters into my own hands!

I have never been a tech person and don’t usually buy into any of the latest gadgets. I was one of the last people I know to get a smart phone and even so, my iPhone is ancient by iPhone standards. I will never own an iPad nor will I have a GPS in my car. That’s just how I am. However, I’ve rebelled against the e-readers for a very long time and decided to give it a try! Even better? I guess the Kindle Fire streams Netflix, so I daresay I’ve found something to make treadmill time even easier! (You see how I tied that back to running?!) Buffy, here I come!

Do you own a Kindle, iPad, tablet of some sort? What do you use it for?

Do you register for races far in advance, or are you good about training and registering later?
