I’m So Grateful

I’m feeling a little sappy today. Naturally, there is a story that goes along, so let me share it with you.

As you all know, I am going to Haiti this January as a part of Mission 29.2’s annual trip to Ouanaminthe. As a part of this trip, I have been challenged with the task of raising $1000 to donate to the two cooperating schools that we will be working with. For some participants who signed on with Mission 29.2 earlier than me, a grand may not sound like a lot. However, I am hoping to raise all of these funds by December 1. In short, not a lot of time and quite a lot of money!

If you are able to help me with any type of financial donation, please see this post for details on how it’s possible!

However, when I spoke to Adam, the PR guy at Columbia Sportswear, he immediately turned me over to the Columbia sponsorship department. Adam is the best guy ever but he gave me a little warning; after all, it is almost the end of the year, so most companies have donated out all of the money they have available. I wasn’t going to expect much, but I appreciated Adam’s efforts on my behalf.

But guess what happened? Drumroll please….

Columbia made a massive donation to my trip! I’m not going to go into details about the exact donation amount, but needless to say, I am officially over half way to my $1000 goal!

Y’all, this was absolutely huge. I feel like I am making some ground on my suggested donation amount, and it will make me so happy to know that I really helped all these kids to the best of my ability.

In short, I just wanted to write down a public thank you to Adam and the rest of the Columbia team. Not only are y’all a fun crowd to jump off waterfalls with (and I daresay, hit up the sushi bars?!), but you are also super generous and kind. I sincerely appreciate your help on my latest endeavor!!

Have you ever had a big company do something so nice that it (literally) made you jump for joy?

How about a day-to-day event? What’s your favorite what to “pay it forward”?
I love paying for people’s coffee in the Starbucks drive-through line. I try to do it for the car behind me, at least once a month. I’ve had people surprise me with the gesture so I know how much it can turn your day around.

That’s great of Columbia, but seriously, not surprised they helped out. I love the culture they’ve made over there at their HQ in Portland. Glad you got what you’ve needed so far!

That’s wonderful! Congrats! I’m intrigued on this Starbucks thing – I worked there for 6 years and never saw it happen! Maybe it’s only drive throughs? I did work in a sort of rich yuppie area so those people are probably just jerks :).

Hahah 🙂 Someone did it for me once a few years ago and that triggered the initial idea. I’ve had people do it for me a few times since, typically around Christmas, and it always make me feel warm and fuzzy!

That is amazing, and I appreciate you sharing! Grateful breeds great things in your life and I am excited to see your adventure in Haiti. Can your readers donate?

Columbia chose the right girl! Not only do you have such a healthy attitude about life (not overworking out, not saying no to certain foods) but you love paying it forward!

Sweet, way to go Columbia! Always good to see people or companies that give back. My favorite pay it forward is a couple years ago we got the idea from the Patagonia 1% for the planet fund that we should do something like that personally. So we automatically have 1% go into an account. Anytime something comes up we want to help out with we can give freely without feeling stressed about our tight budget (probably due to selfish purchases anyway). It’s awesome to see how far people take that 1% and use it for great things. Now if I’d just use 1% of my time and energy for more good!

That is incredibly awesome of Columbia! Fundraising is hard, I can only imagine the weight that took off your shoulders!

I haven’t had the chance to get drive thru coffee in a long time but I used to treat myself once a week and I’d try to get the person behind me at least once every other week. It was an awesome feeling and its happened to me a few times, completely changes your day! I day I was picking up coffee at 6am and the lady at the window said I was about the 15th customer I had paying it forward…they had only been open an hour. Karma was getting earned like crazy that day!
