Just a Colorado Gal

The Lake District

So, it´s been awhile and I thought I should update! After Puerto Natales and the park, we hopped on a billion hour bus ride (seriously, it was like 30 hours) and went to Bariloche in Argentina. It´s located in what they call the Lake District, and it is surprisingly similar to Colorado–we were both noticing the terrain was just like at home!

Anyway, it´s a really fun city that has lots of outdoor-type activities, so of course, we have been keeping ourselves entertained. We took a ski lift thing to the top of a hill our first day and checked out the view–beautiful! And then yesterday, the two of us rented a car (which cost too much but it was nice to get away from the chaos of the hostel) and did the 400 km. Siete Lagos route. It is this route that drives through the towns of Villa La Angostura and San Martín de los Andes before turning around and heading back to Bariloche.
It was really nice. There were tons of lakes–hence the name–and the miradores were wonderful. San Martin is a really cute town, actually, so it was nice to take a look at that. It is kinda like Vail, only it doesn´t cost a fortune and is still cute. Either way, lots of fun and a good way to check out a lot of the Lake District.

We decided to drop some more money tomorrow and head out for some kayaking. We are doing a half day tour, which I think will be PLENTY for my weak little arms. Pretty excited to see the views from the center of the lake. I´ll post them, of course!

Headed out of Bariloche this Sunday, and planning on crossing BACK into Chile again to a town called Pucón, which is in the Chilean side of the Lake District. There is this volcano, Volcan Villarica, which is a nice snow climb but it still active, so you supposedly can see bubbling lava at the top. If the lava is too active, however, they don´t let you climb (obviously) so keep your fingers crossed!
