My Latest Loves

Now that we’re out of the Alaskan woods (so to speak), it’s time to focus on a few other things. I haven’t yapped about all of my favorite things lately, so let’s start there!

DA Active Crossback Bra

(Sorry y’all—no photos on this one. Nobody needs to see that).

I met up with DA Active at the summer OR show back in August, and got to chatting with Alex, the owner of the startup company. I was amazed at how young she was, but was even more surprised at how much I liked the workout outfit she sent me afterwards. Of the three pieces she sent, my fave is the Crossback Bra. I’m not super picky about sports bras, but one of my biggest pet peeves is when the removable padding gets all folded and mashed up in the washing machine. Somehow, someway, this bra’s padding doesn’t do that, and it always comes out of the dryer, ready to wear (And for those who suggest a sports bra sans padding, don’t try it—this is a bad idea on so many levels for me!)

Montane Atomic Jacket

montane1

I’ve talked about Montane in a previous review of their Featherlite Jacket, so I was very excited to test their Atomic Shell while in Alaska. Y’all have heard about how wet we all were and how soaked all of our gear got, right? Well, the bright side is that this shell performed beautifully and literally kept out every single drop of water, even on the days when I paddled through rain for 10+ hours. The hood cinched down tight enough to keep water away from my head, and I was overall pretty pleased with the shell. The one downside: it isn’t the most breathable of shells, so if you’re doing something super cardio-heavy, you may get a bit toasty.

Mountain Men

MM

I am so obsessed with this show that it isn’t even funny! If y’all haven’t seen it, hop over to to History Channel and check it out. It follows the lives of a handful of real-life “mountain men” that live in various locations around the US. They live away from society, off the grid, and support themselves on a variety of levels. My faves are Eustace and Rich. Eustace lives in the milder climate of North Carolina, but he truly is self-sustained—he even builds his own horse trailer and makes his own bullets. Rich lives in southern Montana but works for local ranchers to help scare away mountain lions and wolves from eating cattle. In short, he is badass.

(If I find out that this show is completely fake, I’m going to be distraught.)

Reebok Nano Speeds

Nano Speed

When this box showed up a few weeks ago (compliments of Reebok), I wasn’t convinced that I really needed another pair of Nanos. Well, in reality, I don’t need them, but since I’ve tried them out a few times, I’ve totally fallen in love with the shoe. It’s similar to their Nano 2.0 shoe except it is more geared towards running WODs. For me, this was huge! I’m a huge fan of my Nano’s and rec them to any CrossFitter who asks. However, they weren’t my absolutely fave for WODs that involve more than a few quick sprints. The Nano Speeds have changed that since they really feel lighter and more responsive while running. I love how flexible the shoe is too!

Are they going to become my go-to running shoe? Of course not. However, they have worked their way into my CrossFit rotation and they will be on my feet whenever the WOD calls for running!

What’s on your fave list these days?

I’m always looking for a good sports bra. Right now I’m loving my North Face sports bra. I can’t remember which one it is, but it’s so comfortable!
