Want to know why? Because quite a few of you have been very curious about Will, the guy who you may have noticed on the blog a few times. I laughed at Ali‘s blog comment:
And laughed even harder at Alyssa’s:
This was re: Will doing push-ups in the truck bed in this post |
I giggled some more at a few emails that I received, and totally cracked up when I saw the following Instagram comment from Katie:
Alyssa, I expect you to appreciate that |
Apparently quite a few of you are wondering who this mystery man in my life is, and I have to say that a part of me was quite flattered! But don’t worry, I won’t let my head get too big π So yes, I do have a boyfriend these days and yes, that would be Will!
He and I met back in June on the Columbia press trip to Havasupai. Obviously, I was there with the rest of the OmniTen, but Will was checking out Omni-Freeze Zero because he freelances for Backpacker magazine. We hung out and enjoyed our hike into the canyon and parted on friendly terms. We kept in touch over the summer, but started to communicate more frequently when he offered to donate all the proceeds from his photography website towards my Haiti fundraising.Β (Now I know he was just making his move, right?!) He visited Colorado in September as part of a previously-scheduled backpacking trip, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Smart man, but bocce eludes him π |
Unfortunately, Will’s day job in corporate America has him currently based in San Diego. Yes, that means we’re doing the long distance thing! In fact, I failed to mention to y’all that I flew out there last Wednesday to spend a week, checking things out and doing our Christmas thing. I could break that into an entirely separate post, but I don’t imagine that it’s too exciting for any of you. Just know that sushi happened….
….followed by The Nutcracker ballet!
(Oh yeah, did I fail to mention that I cut my bangs?! Will will went to work, I found scissors, and got a little crazy. This is why you can never, ever leave me alone with sharp objects.)

What do we think? Love ’em or hate ’em? I can still pull them back or to the side, so I’m happy with them! |
A wedding in Rancho Santa FeΒ also happened (complete with some absolutely stunning scenery….
…and we followed that up with a Prohibition-themed party at the Hard Rock Hotel. Will and a few of his friends rented a suite and we all dressed up in our fanciest roaring 20’s outfits. Luckily for me, I happen to own a flapper costume, but I couldn’t find the boa. What a letdown!
See? Bangs can go back. And I can also attempt to wear red lipstick. Stranger things have happened. |
We also did our Christmas gift exchange, and I have to say that he ridiculously spoiled me, almost to the point of embarrassment. In fact, I even hesitate to share his gifts on my blog, but I am so damn excited about them that I can barely contain it!
An entirely new backcountry/AT ski setup and some earrings from Tiffany’s |
You better believe that I’m heading into the backcountry in Park City next week, broken back or not!
So, that’s my life in a nutshell these days! I feel like I needed to do a big ol’ sweep of catch-up so I hope this sufficed! I know the holidays are insane for everyone, so I’m sure y’all feel the same.

So Happy for you!
I mean… come on… who wasn’t on #TeamWill all this time anyway? Maybe Capt Obvious was just taken some down time.
Cant wait to hear some reviews of your new back country gear!!!
Hahaha, thanks Eric π
what a catch!!!! how exciting, congrats π
Yay, congrats on a handsome catch!
Haha, that was very clever of Katie.
That first question is ridiculously hare, but since we’re talking about love and Christmas……….One Christmas I hoped and hoped and hoped I was getting an engagement ring as a present….but it didn’t happen. I remained disappointed until that February when he asked me to marry him in a sweeter more romantic way than I ever could have imagined. It’s not always what you get, but how you get it. But in this case it was both. π
Can’t wait to meet your boy toy.
He’ll be on the hut trip!
Ok, you two might be just about the cutest couple going! I’m really glad you are having a good time with Will!
Awwwwww! So sweet! Yay you!
The jig is up. Yes! I may show up to SLC with a #TeamWill shirt.
If I pick you up at the airport and you’re wearing one, I may die laughing. Just saying.
This post was so cute. Love the bangs. I did the same thing about a month ago π
Thank you! I like them, too. It’s something different that I can easily change if I want. After all, it’s just hair, you know?
YAY! I was so hoping that his recent appearance on your blog meant good things for you two. What a catch! I didn’t know you were coming to Park City next week. You’ll be in my neck of the woods! Too bad we barely have any snow…
DON’T SAY THAT! π
I hear the mountains are doing much much better than our valley, so fingers crossed for you! π
We’re getting some here on Christmas so I imagine it’ll hit you around the same time….I hope it just dumps all next week π
cute post π sounds like a super fun trip to san diego, too!
Yay for cute boys! I’d be interest to know what bindings you got for those Dynafit boots. I have the Ruby bindings and I am not a fan of Dynafit. If you ski aggressively they tend to pop out, at least for me. I hope that you review your new setup.
He got the Dynafit Speed Radicals with them– quite a few of his BP colleagues raved about them. Here is a link if you want to check them out: http://www.wildsnow.com/8568/dynafit-speed-radical-review-binding/
Not going to lie, I was a little jealous of your new AT gear! CC and I are in the market so I expect full reviews so I know what to get her! Also, congrats!
I definitely will! My Av 1 course isn’t until early March so I won’t be doing any aggressive backcountry until then, but I’ll definitely be taking them on the hut trip and probably to Berthoud, etc. I’ll keep y’all posted!
I knew it! I knew it!! And it’s marvelous, Heather. Wooo!
I feel really honored that my comment was good enough to publish, and I do really enjoy the instagram comments! I’m about to sound like a creepster again but you are really, really pretty. Like stunningly gorgeous. I swear I’m not a creepster though.
The long distance thing is rough but in your case he does work in the most wonderful city in the US so that is one benefit! I could swear you had mentioned all that SD stuff on your blog – apparently I don’t know how to differentiate between social media outlets.
And YAY to it finally being official on the blog!
Love it, you two make a beautiful couple!!!
Your hair is super cute with the bangs and pulled back! Very stylish! Yall are a very cute couple and looks like you had a blast!
Those are some awesome Christmas presents! And I love the bangs!
Congratulations! I think that your bangs look cute, very nice!
I am super behind on all my blog reading but just wanted to say Yay! And cute- cute Will and cute bangs:).
Yay, I’m so glad other people asked about him because I kept thinking that you guys were really cute together and something needed to happen there. It sounds like you two are both very lucky to have each other!
[…] hard in the backcountry. However, Will obviously knew what he was getting me for Christmas (ahem! these beautiful skis!), so we signed up for the course when we saw this insane Groupon. Instead of the regularly priced […]
