But yeah, work is awesome. I hang out with a group of five year olds all day, which yes, can be frustrating, but its also wicked funny sometimes. I had this one boy the past few days who is a little demon. He yells “teacher” all the time (and I mean, seriously screams at the top of his lungs), insists on walking up the mountain instead of taking the lift, and flails his arms around at the top, possibly thinking that I didn’t notice him among the other ten kids standing there. And yet, with all of his obnoxiousness, I love the kid! He makes me smiles, definitely makes me laugh, and keeps the day moving for me by keeping me on my toes. Can’t really say that about too many other coworkers I have had in the past!! 😉 Everyone I work with is really nice too, and have gotten to know quite a few of them fairly well. Always nice to move to a new place and have some friendly faces!
Yup, the adjustment has been fairly easy. Of course, the mountain closes in like 2 or 3 weeks and this means two things: one, I am out of a job (which I am trying to remedy now), and two, most of the people I work with now are headed home, back to their prospective states or countries (cause there are a lot of foreigners that work here, too) Sad! I’ll have to meet all new friends!
We had our first ski day this weekend, and it was fun—and fairly funny too! I took Meg up to try to re-teach her how to ski since she has only boarded for the past ten years, and it was quite the endeavor. She didn’t really remember it as quickly as she had thought she would, and she was totally getting pissed at herself. When she started swearing and cussing herself out, I knew it was time to get off the mountain! After all, I don’t want her to walk away hating skiing! We’ll have to get her up again for another go ’round!
Life in the Steamboat world also involved a lot of going out, it seems, which is something my body apparently isn’t used to since it crashed and burned on me this Sunday, leaving me with a fever and tonsils the size of basketballs. Pretty sure I could’ve rolled into a grave and died and i wouldn’t even have noticed. For those of you who have always wished for the day where I was rendered speechless…….welp, you missed it, I guess!
But yeah, lots of time is spent hanging out over a few beers here, whether it be at a bar, restaurant, or party. St. Patrick’s Day was no exception and Meg and I had a good time playing in our new town. We went to walmart and made ourselves some festive tshirts (once I get the pictures, i will post some!) and headed up to the mountain to hang out with some friends before heading to a co-workers house party downtown. Despite my best efforts, however, we still missed the last bus back to the mountain where we live, so a friend and I had to endure the two mile walk home in the frigidity that is Steamboat nights. God, I can’t wait until I have my truck! Meg was smart enough to crash at our friend’s house, but because of my lovely dog Tally, that wasn’t an option for me. I had to get home to my baby! (And I am absolutely positive it was this arctic walk that pushed my infectious and disease-ridden body into failure the next morning!)
So yeah, life in “the boat” is great! Come visit soon! 🙂
