A Little Help Here!

OOOOOOOOKKKKKKKKKKKK all my blogger-world friends, I need your help! I know many of you have dogs and I’m pretty sure all of your dogs have paws, so therefore, I think you can help me!!

Now if only he had opposable thumbs. . . . .

So Tals and I are going shoe shopping soon. For once, it’s not for me; it’s actually for her! She is one of those lucky balls of fur that never has any foot problems (too bad her mom didn’t get the same genes!) She doesn’t get snow stuck between her toes when we go snowshoeing or skiing, and she doesn’t get all cut up in the summer when we hike. Until recently, she has been quite the happy camper running around all bare-pawed.

How rude!!

Well, this past year I took her to hike Mt. Quandary, a 14er here in Colorado. Although she hikes, etc., with me all the time, it was the first time I took her on an actual 14er, and it definitely involves a lot more rocks once you get above tree line. She did great (minus that time she saw a mountain goat 3,000 feet below us and ran down to get it….and then ran allllllllll the way back up to get me!) but her little paws were kinda raw by the time we finished. Other dogs fared a lot worse and had a hard time walking for a few days, but Tals was just slightly uncomfortable.

Talk about uncomfortable — I think he has it much worse.

Over Labor Day weekend, we’re going camping for a few days, as well as hiking another 14er, and I really want to bring her. So what’s my point? I want to get Tals some dog booties. I bought her a pair a few years ago and she promptly ate them. As in, destroyed them so that I could barely find the pieces.

Do it and die, Tals.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me on which dog boots will work great for Tals for high-alpine hikes? Something that she won’t want to devour to bits?! Hook a sister up!!

PS If you have any tips for some hypnosis or something that would keep her from locating every porcupine on the mountain, that would also be very helpful. I would prefer that the third time is the charm.

You should’ve seen her the second time–it was SOOOO much worse!
