Just a Colorado Gal

Memorable Memorial Weekend

Wow, what a flipping busy weekend! My sister officially moved up to Oregon this past weekend so my parents and I flew up there on Friday to help her get settled in. Definitely is a beautiful state but also made me realize how much I really love Colorado. I am only two states shy of the entire 50-state conquest, and no matter where I go, I am still convinced that Colorado is the best place to live! Anyway, we got her settled in, spent a day at Cannon Beach (think: freezing!) and spent another day wandering around Portland. Missy took me to Powell’s, this gigantic used bookstore. She knew I would love it but it was bad news for me. I am such a book nerd and I wanted to buy so many books which totally makes no sense since I had to get them back home in my carry-on suitcase! In the end, I bought three: The Geography of Bliss is my first one. So far, it is really good so I highly recommend it!

Anyway, my flight came in late (like midnight) on Sunday night and I got up super early on Monday to run the damn Bolder Boulder. After a weekend of no sleep, restaurant food, and lots of heaving lifting, I was definitely exhausted and not ready for the race! Once I got there though and accepted that I was not going to be running for a PR, I settled into the course and enjoyed playing and laughing at all of the people and shows on the sidewalks–complete with a herd of drunk Waldos and a slip-n-slide! Angel and I went over to my friend Amber’s house after the race for a bbq but I definitely was exhausted and not thinking. We got there at 12:15 not realizing that the last bus left the CU campus at like one or 1:30. Essentially, we ate a hot dog and left Amber’s within 15 minutes–I felt like such an ass! Not only that, but we realized we were gonna miss the bus if we didn’t hurry so we had to run/walk (AFTER the race!) all three miles back to CU. Of course, it started pouring on us as well…talk about poor planning!
