More Advice: Training Schedules?

Hey y’all!

A few days ago, I asked for some help regarding compression apparel. Unfortunately, I still have all of those same questions so if anyone could help me out, I’d really appreciate it! If not, I’m just buying the pink compression sleeves (solely because they’re pink, of course) and trying them out. Worst comes to worst, my legs fall off. Not a crisis. I’d figure it out!

Anyway, I’ve been reading about all of my bloggy friends who participated in (or have upcoming) half ironman races this year. My interest and crazy curiosity is super piqued now. Quite honestly, I’ve thought about doing a HIM for quite sometime, and originally, 2011 was going to be the year for my first attempt. Obviously that didn’t happen! School got crazy, work got busy, and there was no way I could handle all the necessary training. However, I’m planning WAAAAAY far ahead now, and I think I’d like to try either the Boulder 70.3 or the Harvest Moon Triathlon next year. I figure that gives me an entire year to train; even with my crazy schedule, that has to be enough, right?!

Plus, I’ll be working on my thesis next summer instead of taking actual classes. Call me crazy but I’m hoping that will be less hectic than homework. Am I wrong on that?!

Point of this ramble: are there any great training schedules that I should follow? Being a child of the 21st century, I googled it, of course, and found a million. They all look so different! Some require as little as 10 hours of training per week; others shoot up to almost 20. I’m sure there is a happy medium, but I sure as hell don’t know where it’s at. So, who has a great tried and true schedule for me to use??!

Ok for what it’s worth here is my advice. 🙂 First off you can do it! I’ve got no doubt about that!
Now unless things have changed some time soon you will have the chance to sign up for the Boulder Series. I just looked I did it in October last year. That would be a sprint, oly and the 70.3 race for a smokin price. $340ish dollars last year for all 3 races. I think the 70.3 alone is over $200. I think that Harvest Moon is a little cheaper. As far as the courses go, I think that the Boulder ride is probably easier then Aurora. And I’m just guessing here but I think the run for either could be miserable. I know Boulder is hellishly hot! 🙂 We will see what Harvest Moon is like this year. I think they have actually had some really cold weather too.

As far as plans go….I’ve used Beginner Triathlon. I think they have some pretty good plans as well as great workout logging capabilities. And you can import your plans to your calendar so that is nice too.

Did I miss anything? I’m sure this is far more then you wanted to know…but if you have any other questions I can help with let me know.

    Now go for it!
