If you follow me on DailyMile, you may have noticed that I returned to the Crossfit gym yesterday! Y’all, this seriously made me so excited!

As I mentioned in previous posts, I have been going through a series of spinal decompression treatments at my doc. These, combined with ART, PT stretches, and some light adjustments, finally seem to be helping my back. Is it completely better? Nope, not at all. Does it still hurt? Actually yes, it still does. Constantly. However, the pain is less than it was 5 weeks ago, and I am starting to get some extension back. In fact, I can lean back far enough now to see the ceiling slightly behind me!
After making this realization, I spoke with Doc and asked him about my future activities. Joy, oh joy, he said I could do whatever I wanted! He said at this point, no future activities will do more damage and that it really just depends on my pain tolerance and how much I can tolerate. Luckily, I can withstand a beating!
After arriving at Big Horn, Brian (my coach) and I had a quick pow wow about the WOD for the day in regards to what I should and shouldn’t be doing. The original workout was:
Naturally, I had to modify the hell out of it! I kept all of the thrusters at 35# (only the bar), and the supermen were an absolute no-go, so we subbed in sit-ups instead. The knees-to-elbows were swapped out for basic hanging knee raises with minimal swinging and I finally conceded that box step ups were on my agenda instead of box jumps. None of these subs made me happy (especially the step ups! It’s like I’m back in a step class!) but I was psyched to finally be doing something other than the elliptical!

Guys, I can’t even explain how great it feels to get back in the game. Like I said, the spinal decompression is only making improvements a little bit at a time– in fact, we’re talking millimeters here. However, it is working and I am thrilled. I’m even going to try a run this morning!

Welcome back to the game…enjoy and kick some butt!
congrats girl! I’m sure that feels great to be back at it! Good job pushing through!
I injured myself Friday and am chomping at the bit to get back, so glad to hear you were cleared to return!
Oh no! Hope you’re feeling better soon!
Look how happy you are!! 🙂 Welcome back to (modified) workouts! PS – you should have some shoes showing up today!
I’ll keep my eyes peeled– thank yoU!!
yay – so excited to hear you’ve been cleared for activity again! I’ve been injured a few times, but a stress fracture several years ago was the worst. Having to start back with walking was a humbling experience!
Wohoo! I cringed at the SuperMans and the thought of doing them on an injured back, way to be smart about modification. Good luck in your recovery, if you want to grab Kilimanjaro this year, you know you’ve got to be 100%, each small step counts!
Ugh, yeah, the Supermen are the exact way my back CAN’T go right now so those definitely fell in the “hell no” category 🙂
Glad to hear you are back at it, it sucks when an injury holds you back from something you love! Hope recovery keeps going smoothly for you!
Yay, glad you are back at it!
Yay!
The worst injury I’ve ever had is the one I’m going through right now (not really, I broke a bone in my hand once, but that was a long time ago). I may have ITBS but the Doc doesn’t know. I have my MRI at 1230 tomorrow, pretty stoked to see if it shows anything. As for my all time favorite workout, besides running, is squats. Love them, small, short, strong people like myself have a much easier time doing them
Congrats on your comback! That is what I love about Crossfit…there is always a variance and every workout can be adjusted to an idividuals needs! Healthy vibes your way for continued good health and healing!
Hooray! Glad to see you’re back at it!!
Wow, you are amazing, if my activities were based on my pain tolerance they would probably include walking to the kitchen for chocolate and that’s about it. So glad you are on the mend, even slowly but surely!
