Hey, guess what?
I’m sick. Again.
And you know what makes it the absolute worst thing ever? It’s the exact same thing I had last month. And it’s just before another trip. Just like last time.
Sigh.
I started to feel the sore throat coming on Tuesday and immediately grew scared. Y’all, last month’s disease-ridden week was one of the worst I’ve experienced in almost a decade and I was terrified of a possible recurrence. I realized by Wednesday evening that it was the same damn thing that leveled me on Christmas; you know, a 102 fever and throat that feels like a blow torch has attacked it. Thus, I made a doc appointment for this morning, and toddled myself through their doors at 10:30.
Lo and behold, I have the same mysterious plague! You see, I have all the symptoms of strep throat: a fiery, swollen and incredibly raw throat (my doc used the word “horrendous”) and a fever, but nothing else. I have no cough, no sniffles, or no aches. Because of these isolated symptoms, I’m pretty much the definition of strep…except my strep test came back negative, just like it did last month. And, just like last month, the doc put me on strep meds anyway, and they seem to be working. Who knows what’s wrong with me, but I am officially over this! I’m pretty sure OR is the culprit since I probably shook hands and/or spoke with hundreds upon hundreds of people last week. What’s a gal to do?!

The kicker? We have a ski weekend planned starting tomorrow night! It’s been far too long since I’ve seen my best friends and we all decided to remedy that with a condo in Breckenridge. We booked it weeks ago, but I never would have thought we’d get so lucky as to be sleeping at the base of the ski hill immediately after a 30” storm blew in!
Y’all, the mountains are getting hammered and it is very likely we will be hitting first tracks on Saturday morning with over three feet of fresh powder. I’m beyond ecstatic, so I’m really hoping these meds will work as quickly as they did last month. There is no way I’m missing a weekend of powder, you know?
Having said that, y’all have a great weekend and…..
GO BRONCOS!!

What are your plans for the Super Bowl? Will you watch it? (And please confirm that you are rooting for the Donkeys….)

I am rooting for the Broncos 🙂 I have been a fan since I was a kid. We don’t have any NFL team in Montana so I tend to root for a couple teams, but I have always liked the Broncos best. Elway was so awesome when I was little! Hope you feel better soon!
Strep throat is the worst, I have never felt as ill in my life as I did with strep! Get better soon…and in the absence of a San Francisco team (sob), we’re rooting for the Broncos too.
Bummer about the non-strep throat thing, but at least the meds should work again. We are so jealous about all the pow Breck is getting, can’t wait for our Spring Break trip out there!
I am totally sick right now too!! Just with a bad cold but dang! I can’t imagine a horrendously sore throat. No fun!
Have fun skiing – I was planning to head up Sunday with hopes of no lines (and awesome snow!) but pretty sure my cold is telling me to stay home and get better. Hope you have a great weekend!!
Oh man. I hope you feel better soon! I’ve had this same issue – strep throat pain but no positive strep test – twice in the last year! It actually happened a couple of months apart and it sucked. My doc could only give me lidocaine mouthwash and pain pills and I had to wait it out since I didn’t have any other symptoms. Hope you recover soon! That pain brought me to tears.
Enjoy the pow this weekend in Breck! I will be catching some of it at A Basin tomorrow, I hope! 🙂
How could I forget…GO Hawks! 🙂
I hope that you feel better soon, no fun being sick let alone getting it again soon!
Would you stop getting sick, already?!?!? I doctor told me once, that when adults get strep throat it’s because they’re run down. Maybe you need to rest more! Do you ever take airborne or emergenC?
Hope you feel better soon!
UGH! So sorry you got sick again, I went through this last year, the strep came back negative, but I tested positive for Flu. Hope you’re feeling 100% soon!!!
Aw man, so sorry to hear that! It’s the worst being sick when you have something coming up that you’ve been really looking forward to. I watched and cheered for Denver – yeah that wasn’t much help.
I know this is late, but that sounds like exactly what I have! My doctor told me that there’s a strain of viral bronchitis going around with those exact symptoms. He basically told me to stay home, not expose myself to anyone, gave me a cough syrup to help me sleep, and told me to wait it out.
It sucks! I’m so sorry you’ve got something, too!
