If you missed it, check out this post to read the rules to the movie trivia game we’re playing this week in celebration of #OmniTeam5’s movie premiere on Friday. Whoever finds the most correct movie quotes/references in my posts this week will win some sweet Columbia schwag! Today is day #3 but you can still go back and leave comments with your guesses on this post and this post. Winner will be announced at tomorrow’s movie showing!
Here’s to hoping! {Get it, get it?!}
Although we wrapped up the official OmniGames stories yesterday, you can’t go to a movie premiere without walking the red carpet, right? Actually, that’s a lie: I really hate awards shows and feel like they all look like fashion victims and/or ensembly challenged. I typically only watch them to see the fun people like Jennifer Lawrence:
Fortunately for me, Columbia has some people that semi-rival J-Law in the fun category, and I got to check out some insane outdoor gear that will be released later this season. First up?
Turbo Down

According to Scott Trepanier, the Senior Manager for PR at Columbia, we’re looking at a game changer here! In addition to fitting absolutely adorable on the four of us above {!}, the new combo of materials is flaunting some serious power. You see, the ducks in the world are rebelling and the cost of down has skyrocketed. Columbia saw this trend and set about finding a solution that would make an affordable jacket.
Basically, they mashed both down and their synthetic materials into the same baffle, and then wrapped it up into an Omni-Heat sandwich. Yup, you read that correctly: the jacket uses down, synthetic AND Omni-Heat to keep chilly bodies warm. Purportedly, the Turbo Down is 8-22% warmer than its competitors which begs the new catchphrase: “It’s like down on steroids…only legal.”
Personally, I wore the jacket everywhere during the trip including the chilly ropes course and the downright freezing World Cup Freestyle Mogul competition on Thursday night. And you know what? I think Columbia is onto something! I need to take it above treeline a few more times before I give it the final seal of approval, but I’m cautiously optimistic. I dare say that Columbia may have just changed the rules {and made the ducks all the more happy!}
Olympic Uniforms
Speaking of which, have y’all ever seen those Olympians do their thing?! As I mentioned above, we were afforded the chance to check out the World Cup Freestyle Mogul comp where the USA, Canada and Russia were battling it out over podium spots that would get them to the true Games in Sochi.
These athletes were incredible. Inspirational is a word that is overused in the 21st century, but I honestly can’t think of a better adjective to describe them. These skiers were flipping, launching, twisting and bombing down these bumps in a manner that only made my knees ache from observation. Hannah Kearney and her adorable pigtails kept the Canadians from sweeping both the men and women’s podiums, so I’m looking forward to watching her in the Olympics!
Once I realized the Columbia-made USA/Russia/Canadian Olympic ski team uniforms were being released on January 8, I suspected that we would be fortunate enough to take a peek. But seriously?! HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT!

Y’all, it is insane how much detail and consideration goes into these uniforms. I mean, of course I knew that these babies were a work of pride and took a fair bit of time, but I learned that companies bid on them back in 2010! That means these designers have been creating and re-creating the perfect ski uniforms for four years.
Eternity.
I’m not sure if this is un-American, but I truly loved the Canadian uniforms. In particular, I dug the aerialist outfit because it had this shimmery maple leaf imprinted all over the top. You couldn’t see it clearly, but the leaves would catch in the light and reflect this slight aura of magic. I can only imagine how impressive they will look under the bright lights of the Olympics!

So you see? Columbia showed us some red carpet apparel that is significantly cooler (or warmer! Pun intended! Get it? Get it?) than the stuff you likely saw at the Golden Globes. And with that, I’ve wrapped up this week of OmniGames stories. As usual, movie snippets are woven throughout this post, so you best get on finding them! The winner will be announced tomorrow….after the release of #OmniTeam5’s movie!
