Happy Monday everyone!I hinted over the weekend that I had some exciting news, and I figure now is the perfect time to share it with you!
I was chosen to be a member of the inaugural 2012 OmniTen for Columbia Sportswear!
What does that mean? Well, to be honest, I’m not 100% sure just yet, but I am happy to explain what I do know. Basically, Columbia chose 10 peeps from around the country to test out and provide information on their new spring line. I had been communicating with them for awhile but I didn’t really know the extent of what they were thinking until I came home from work on Friday to a big ol’ box of gear at my front door! Talk about the best way to end a work week, right?!
Another iPhone fail. Sorry, friends.
There may be some potential gear testing trips in my future as well, but like I said, I’m still a bit fuzzy on the details (I do know that I just had to turn down the opportunity to go heli skiing. I may have cried over that one!)
I am, however,
very excited and quite honestly,
I feel pretty honored. I mean, for those of you that have been readers for a long time, I’m sure you understand how trying out new outdoor stuff is right up my alley! I love being outside and outdoor/adventure sports are my “happy place,” so to speak. My garage is a massive pile of gear from every possible sport, and a few of you might even remember how I have
an entire shelf dedicated to all of my different helmets. Now, if that’s not a sure sign of an outdoor sport lover, I don’t know what is!
Because of this, I am already sensing that Me + Columbia = Match Made in Heaven.

How do you feel about the outdoor sport world: love it or hate it?
I always assumed everyone loved it like me, but then I realized that A) That is just Colorado and B) Jillian Michaels on the Biggest Loser used to bitch like crazy when she had to do outdoor workouts!
How was your weekend?

HOW COOL! Really, I couldn’t think of a better brand partnership for you and I’m excited to see what products you love and what really works!
I think it may be just a Colorado thing – or mostly, that the people who love outdoor sports migrate here. It’s a different mindset! But how can you NOT do outdoor sports here? Beyond me 🙂
Congrats again!
You’re probably right! And I know that being inside, at a gym or something, has it’s place in life too. I’d just rather be outside 🙂
Awesome. How great for you! Looks like a perfect fit.
That’s amazing!! What a perfect fit! I’m super jealous. Why did you have to turn down the heli-skiing?
Sigh, responsibility. After having been in HI for two weeks, I am SO FAR BEHIND in school and work. I knew if I went, I’d likely fail my class which is no bueno. But seriously… it took some serious willpower not to jump at the chance!
That is amazing! How exciting! Good for you 🙂
That is exciting! Congrats and wow, can’t wait to see all the fun stuff you get to try out!
woot woot major congrats!! this is exactly how i was with oakley, i didn’t know everything it would entail but i knew it was a good match. congrats!
Congrats, lucky you! I love the outdoor sports world and feel most at peace in this world backpacking with few people around. I also get baffled by people who hate being outdoors. I am a Colorado resident now but grew up in Hollywood – even then I played around in Griffith Park.
Wow, Hollywood- Colorado is quite a change, I imagine! Hopefully you love love it here 🙂
Oh how I miss Griffith Park and Topanga Canyon. Being from EITHER of those places, with beautiful weather and mountainous landscape, it’s easy to love the outdoors.
CONGRATULATIONS! I love Columbia – what a perfect fit for you!
Wahoo! So stoked. Maybe we’ll get to meet on an adventure!
That would be so cool!!!
(For anyone reading, Heidi was one of the 10 chosen also!)
Woohooo! That’s awesome! So psyched for you!
That sounds INCREDIBLE!!! How much fun that will be!!!! Congrats!!!
That is so FANTASTIC!!!! How cool is that?!?!
I love the outdoors. It’s becoming more a part of who I am. Such a beautiful world we’re in – better enjoy it!
Wow, that is so freakin’ awesome! I haven’t read your blog for very long but I do know this is a match made in heaven. I wish you the best and hope it is all you wish for and more!
Congrats girlfriend! I am happy for you!! Now you can have awesome gear while still being a poor grad student!!! haha.
Haha, no joke, right?!
Congratulations! Very exciting!
I love outdoor activities, I definitely prefer running outdoors and my husband and I love to hike. We also love swimming, so anytime we can swim in a lake is great for us!
Congrats, Heather! How could anyone NOT prefer outdoor workouts?! (I guess maybe if you’re in the Midwest in the summer…..)
ahhhh!!!! CONGRATS!!!! i am so jealous! i absolutely love Columbia 🙂
Wow, good for you! Columbia just denied sponsorship for my Big City Mountaineers Kilimanjaro climb next year, but I know they can’t sponsor everyone and I still love them! I think it’s pretty cool you’re one out of ten people they picked.. congrats!
I grew up in Detroit, where “outdoor sports” don’t really exist… when I lived in CA I got into more outdoorsy things and I LOVE IT. The outdoors really challenges me, and the feeling that comes with meeting those challenges.. doing things I didn’t think I could… indescribable.
Congrats again!
I am SO JEALOUS that you are doing a Kili trip! That is on my lifelong list of things I really really really want to do!! Are you doing the Summit for Someone program? I’ve looked into that, but the fundraising looks tough. I was gonna volunteer to be a trip leader too, but I realized I couldn’t with work, etc. So glad that you are working with BCM!
I bet outdoor sports in D-town are a bit different! What you described — doing things you previously thought impossible — is exactly what I love about outdoor sports, an outdoor ed as well. It’s a feeling like no other!
It has been on my list for some time, too! Yes, I am doing the Summit for Someone program… the fundraising is $8500 for this trip. I am a little freaked out about it, because it is tough to raise that kind of money, but I think I can do it. I love what BCM does and I’m excited to help them out while doing something I’ve always wanted to do. You should consider a climb… I bet a lot of people in Denver and your readers would be willing to help! There are two Kili trips (Jan and Feb) still open!
I think unless you do it, you don’t know how much outdoor sports/ed will impact you. It really is a feeling like no other! A reason why I love BCM.. showing these kids what’s out there and helping them to get that feeling.
That is AMAZING! And you SOOO deserve it! Can’t wait to see and hear all the stuff you try out!
That is so awesome!!! I’m pretty jealous..although I think you’d make way more use out of everything than I would!! 🙂
Columbia is the best company out there if you ask me. Happy for you!!!
Your right as soon as I saw it I thought it was perfect for you! A match made in heaven for sure! Congrats that is sooooo awesome!
That is awesome! You are the perfect person to test out Columbia gear!
Congrats! Way to be awesome! I’m excited to see what kind of gear showed up in that box!
That is so awesome! But, how could you turn down a heli trip? Boo…So happy for you!
CONGRATS friend!! What a freakin’ honor and I can’t imagine anyone more suited for it than you!!
I can’t wait to see all the fun stuff that you get to try out 🙂
Congrats! That’s awesome!
That’s so awesome!! Who doesn’t like free stuff???
very very cool – congrats on this awesome opportunity! 🙂
Congrats – that is so awesome!!!! If they are looking for more, feel free to toss my name in there 🙂
Congratulations Heather! That’s exciting!
