I’ve seen kids carry backpacks with nothing but a sweatshirt in them to just get used to having one.
(I’ve also had parents point at Sprocket and tell their eight-ish year old, “SEE THAT DOG CARRIES HIS STUFF.:

Those parents sound like Will! He was like, “A two-year-old can carry a pack, right?” I was like, well, I think we’d need to make sure he could walk farther than 1/15th of a mile at a time first, darling 🙂 But we’ll figure it out!
