Have you entered my Reebok giveaway yet? No? Don’t worry—there is still time to score some sweeeeeeet tights and tank to help get your sweat on!
Anyway. Revelations. Let talk about them. And no, I’m not referring to those that reside in the biblical realm. Instead, I’m thinking more about those moments when you’re hanging out, reading a book in bed, and it hits you out of nowhere: “Oh, shoot! That bike tour thing is in one month and I haven’t been on my road bike since last year’s race!”
Whoops.
Remember how I told y’all I was doing the Elephant Rock 66 mile bike course with my dad this June? Unfortunately, it’s almost May…and I still haven’t been on my bike a single time. Seeing as it is once again dumping snow from our seemingly perpetually gray skies, I knew the roadie wasn’t coming out of the garage. I decided to save the pavement-tire reunion for another day, and instead cracked open my iPhone to look at 24Hour Fitness’s class schedule. You see, I’ve had a 24Hour membership forever, but literally haven’t stepped foot in the big box metropolis since January. Between CrossFit and running, I haven’t had a reason to go, and quite honestly, the membership will more than likely get the axe this summer. But I digress…
I saw that there was a spin class midday and realized it was in my best interests to get my butt into that studio for an hour-long sweatfest. I don’t mind spin class, but I’d much rather be on the roads….or running…or at CrossFit. I then flipped over to look at Monday’s CrossFit workout and realized that it was one that I wanted to do, also. What is a girl to do?
Both. Obviously.
Instead of removing either from the day, I rationalized that I could just do both. After all, 66 miles will take me a few hours to ride, so really, the double workout would help prep my muscles for the beating they’ll endure next month. Working on tired muscles just helps them work when they’re tired later, right?
I went to CrossFit in the morning when I had a break in my day and enjoyed a workout full of power cleans, deadlifts, sumo deadlift high pulls, and wall balls. In short, it was a lot of legs! I finished up at Big Horn, worked for a couple hours, and headed over to 24Hour for spin class during my lunch break. My legs were definitely tired on that bike and I felt the burn in my quads, but it actually wasn’t as bad as I had expected. Granted, I’m now on the couch, looking like a stuffed sausage in all of this compression:
Poor life choices, my friends.

How often do you pull the double workout with two entirely different sports?
I’ve done it quite a few times with running, but it seemed so much harder with two entirely different activities!
