Some Randomness From My Life

I haven’t done one of these completely nonsensical posts in awhile, but guess that’s what busy season at work will do to you, right?! Check out what I’m loving, hating and stuff that merely intrigues me!

Bulbs Are Blooming

I love bulb displays more than the average human, and I suspect it’s because I know exactly how much sweat and work goes into a complicated bulb design. Did you know that each bulb has to be planted at a different depth to accommodate its size? And they all have different blooming seasons? And different heights? And while daffodils love shady gardens, tulips are like crack to rabbits? And hyacinths are dusted with anti-fungal powder that makes my skin itch and my eyes well up?

Truth. That’s why I love beautiful displays!

Cabinet Refinishing: Rustoleum

Remember when I was zealously refinishing our bathroom this winter and promised photos once I completed the project?

Well, it’s not done yet so the photos haven’t happened. Sorry y’all, but man! This DIY stuff is rough!

You see, I painted the walls and primed and painted the baseboards. We also hung a shelf and bought some art work, and I even resealed and colored the grout between the floor tiles. However, I’ve been hung up on the cabinets under the sink! The thought of sanding and priming and painting those suckers was mentally exhausting. How was I actually going to complete the real work?!

Fortunately, some of my close friends just finished working on a flip home and they were full of tips for me! Cindy suggested I take a look at Rustoleum’s Cabinet Transformations product at Home Depot and I suspect I’m going to be very happy that she did! I just bought it the other day so I can’t attest to its efficiency or ease of use…but the photos on the box make me happy! Apparently, you just put this base coat on {after deciding from a variety of colors}, then apply the optional refinishing, and follow it up with a glaze. No sanding or priming required! It cost $75 but supposedly covers 100 sq. feet of cabinetry…and if it’s truly as easy as it looks, I’ll be a convert!

The Selection Trilogy

I’ll own it: I’ve been on a futuristic, dystopian binge ever since I read Hunger Games way back when. I have no idea what my problem is, but I can’t get enough of the teen lit genre!

My latest favorite? The Selection Trilogy by Kiera Cass! The third book was just released today, so you better believe I’ll be reading it this week. The story line is predictable—futuristic society where boy and girl meet in unusual circumstances, but naturally, a love triangle exists! Oh, and secrets! Many, many secrets!—but I still enjoy it. In fact, I think I like the series more than The Uglies which is kind of funny since it has absolutely zero commentary on society. Whatever; you should read it!

Greater Portland

Have y’all ever visited Portland, Oregon? My sis went to PA school in Hillsboro, just outside of the city, so I flew up that way to visit her a few times while she was in school. We spent lots of time exploring the city and I always had a fantastic time. There is so much cool stuff up that way!

Fortunately, the peeps with Greater Portland are in Denver this week and it sounds like we’ll be meeting for coffee tomorrow to chat about the coolness that is Portland. Think they’ll bring VooDoo donuts?! {Which, ironically, is now in Denver too! Mmmm, donuts!}

Gimme something random…what are you reading? HAS SOMEONE TRIED THIS RUSTOLEUM THING?!
