Recipe: How to Make Ice Cream in the Backcountry

Sooooo….I meant to include this in my post this morning but well, I forgot. Whoops!

One of my fav things about this year’s trip is that we got *smart* and figured out how to make dessert while we stayed up in the middle of the woods. Usually, we don’t get to enjoy little luxuries like dessert because no one wants to expend the extra energy required to carry everything up the mountain.

In comes backcountry ice cream!!

Step One: Use some large bowls and fill with snow from outside

Don’t worry; we had a surplus of snow!

Step Two: Dump in a can of sweetened condensed milk

Absolutely no idea why Lindsy is holding powdered milk

Step Three: Stir in any additional ingredients that you have/you’d like to use for flavor. We stirred in some coffee and chocolate chips for a “coffee and chocolate” ice cream

Step Four: Set the bowls outside in the cold while you play all day. Occasionally check on them, re-stirring if necessary

Step Five: Eat and Enjoy!!
