Shame on you, Blogger

We all know Blogger went nuts. And not just a little crazy, but full scale meltdown crazy where posts were lost, comments were lost, and  general chaos reigned. Luckily, my posts came back but all the comments are gone forever…..sigh.

Anyway, this weekend has been BUSY!! I ended up working a 12 hour day on Friday which pretty much exhausted me. Bright side is that it was Friday so I went home and literally. didn’t. move. For the rest of the night 🙂

Yesterday came bright and early and I met Craig and Cindy at Red Rocks at 8am. Awhile back, we had signed up to volunteer with Volunteers Outdoor Colorado to do a little trail restoration and building. The way I see it, I use the trail all the time, so why not help out a little? Unfortunately the weather didn’t cooperate and we dealt with a little bit of rain all day, and the temps were kinda chilly. Once you started actually working, the cold wasn’t so bad though!

Our crew mainly worked on a few social trails that had sprouted up all over the park (Social trails are when people start making their own trails instead of following the marked path. More and more people start following them and next thing you know, a trail is forming where it shouldn’t be.) If there was no vegetation on the trail, we would first use the pickaxes to chop up the packed dirt and loosen it up. Then we’d rake through the surrounding grasses and shrubs to cull away any dead material and debris to cover the trail. After all that, we’d hike to one of the various slash piles laying around and use some of the leftover branches and tree trunks to further cover the trail. Last but not least was the guys’ favorite part: moving all the rocks!  We had to move some large boulders to block off the areas and some of the guys–like Craig–seemed to get a kick out of boulder rolling 🙂
