Spin Class Gripes

It’s one of those days, folks. I’m just saying!

Do you ever go to a class at the gym and find someone there that absolutely drives you nuts? I’ve found one at my gym and unfortunately, we seem to be on the identical workout schedule. I ran into her again last night during spin, and I pretty much wanted to throw my water bottle at her throughout the entire class.

I know, that would not have been a demonstration in good gym etiquette. But let me explain!

I first encountered this chica about a month ago during a different spin class. Ever since, I’ve managed to run into her during at least one class each week. And every time, it’s always the same. Spin starts at 6:30; she saunters in at 6:35-6:40, which in itself, is a pet peeve of mine. I strongly dislike lateness, but I get it–maybe she gets out of work late and that’s the best she can do. Moving on.

But even worse? She makes a point of ALWAYS strolling into our in-progress class while gabbing on her cell phone. She doesn’t make any pretenses of hanging up, and will literally sit there, standing next to her spin bike, chatting with her homie in the middle of the class while we are all sweating our faces off! And don’t worry–she makes sure to raise her voice so that she can be heard over the music blasting in the classroom. In short, she’s pretty much shouting into the phone. AGH!

After that, she usually wanders out of class to fill up her water bottle, and comes back in around 6:45-6:50 and decides to bless us by joining the class and getting on the bike. But the final straw? Once she does get on her spin bike, she literally does not follow the instructor’s lead by any stretch of the imagination. If the instructor says to crank the gears and climb a hill, she drops her gears and starts doing interval sprints. If the instructor does a song full of bike jumps, she’ll take that time to crank out a mountain climb. I get that each workout is your own and you should scale it to how you are feeling. But I have to wonder, why does this lady even come to class???

Thoughts? Am I overreacting or is this lady totally obnoxious and disrespectful to the instructor?

Do you ever run into people like this during your workouts?

Clearly, my workout last night was spin! What was yours??
