T-minus 13 hours…and counting!

Yowza!! (And yes, I really just did say that!) As I’ve mentioned on here like 5 million times before, I’m doing a series of races this summer in order to raise some money for First Descents, an outdoor ed program for cancer survivors. It’s a great organization, and thus far, my teammate Cindy and I have raised $720. Our original goal was $600, but since we easily passed that, we are hoping to get to an even $1000 by the end of the summer. If you’d like to donate, click here! Anyway, we’ve done two of our early season races already–a 5k snowshoe race and a 7k run in Denver–but the real season is kicking off for us starting tomorrow with the Barkin’ Dog duathlon. I’ve never actually done a duathlon before–I usually stick to the triathlon variety!–so I’m kinda excited. Unfortunately, with all the chaos that’s been going on over the last month, my training has definitely dwindled away to a random series of short runs, occasional bike rides, and frequent visits to the rock wall. Luckily, it’s only a 5k-30k-5k race, so it really isn’t that long. The bike is obviously the longest part but that is always where I can make up my time, so I think I’ll be alright. I am dreading the typical rise-and-shine starting time of the race though!

Seriously, my heat starts at 7:15, but packet pickup is before the race and the transition area opens at 5:30. Since it’s at Cherry Creek State Park (not at all close to me), I have to get up at 4am and leave my house by 5am. I’m an early bird….but OUCH!!!

Wish me luck!!!
