Taking a Windshot to the Face (giveaway winner!)

Hey y’all!

I hope everyone had an awesome weekend! I spent most of it locked inside my apartment, trying to fix my computer just enough so that it will eek out enough energy to last until May when I finish my thesis. Needless to say, it clearly feels that it needs to be replaced but I’m staging a rebellion. We WILL co-exist, it just doesn’t know it yet!

Anyway, when frustration hit all-time high levels, I decided to head outside for a nice run. I even took Tals on a run (she ran, I biked) beforehand so that she I didn’t need to bring her. Not that I don’t love her, but…well, let’s just say my training on a leash could have been exponentially better when she was a pup. I suffer the consequences daily! How she manages to properly run next to my bike but yanks on my hand while running is beyond me….

Clearly not her but you get the point. Just think larger. And bigger devil horns. And a satanic grin while wrenching my shoulder out of the socket.

So I only did 3.25 miles, but it was my first real run since I’ve been back on my asthma meds. HOLY COW, what a difference! (And yes, I said holy cow. Deal with it.)

I could actually get some deep breaths and it was an amazing feeling. Pretty sure I’m gonna enjoy this whole “breathing properly” thing! What I was not enjoying, however, were the 476 mph headwinds that are blowing through the Denver area this weekend! I was experiencing a nice headwind all the way out, and I’m pretty sure those gusts blew straight into my face, down my esophagus and into my lungs (no, seriously, it happened.) The oddly ironic part was that I should have enjoyed a decent tailwind on the way back, but nope. Didn’t happen. Apparently I live in a vortex where wind just circles around and pisses you off. Rude.

In other news, it’s time for a winner!!!

Looks like all that delicious SunButter is going to #29, Terzah!

Terzah lives just down the road from me and if I was less lazy, I’d probably just drive the SunButter to her. But yeah, that probably isn’t going to happen. Terzah, shoot me a message within the next 48 hours with your mailing info and I’ll get it all shipped out to you!

What did you do this weekend? Who raced?

I’ll ask this question again: anyone want a lovable-yet-energetic mutt? I hear she’s going for a real cheap price! 😉

so glad you are breathing better while running – it makes a world of difference – especially in the high elevation state of CO!!! and oh I do not miss the vortex winds while running haha – right now just battling humidity so thick you have to swim and running fast enough to keep the skeeters from biting.

    The wind this weekend sucked!

My puppy and I did get out though on Sunday and did a run/walk. She wanted to run more but I could not keep up. Funny to watch! She would stop and wait for me and look up like “what’s wrong!”

New reader here from Texas. I completely understand the whole running with asthma. I’ve been med-free for about 3 years now but this year has been rough. Here’s hoping the meds help you to keep getting stronger!

    p.s. Adorable pup!!!!

Wow, Heather! I got butterflies in my stomach! Awesome! I’ll email you right now.

Oh, and so happy that you picked the Boulder 70.3. Hopefully I can come down and watch you and all the other tri girls I know on that day.

Hi, I was sent over by SR! I live in Colorado, just completed my first Marathon (Chicago) on a broken foot, turned 60 two weeks later, love dogs and look forward to reading your blog.

Hey! I saw your blog featured on Skinny Runner and thought I’d check it out. I live in Colorado as well! The wind stopped me from running outside this weekend, glad to see you toughed it out.

I’m looking forward to reading your blog 🙂 ps, your header is really cool!

I am so glad the asthma meds are making you feel better!! My runner son has horrible asthma and I have exercise-induced crud so I totally feel your pain.

Haha…your dog makes me laugh. Probably doesn’t make you do the same, though.

I always joke with my friends that I’ve been trying to give away my dog since the day I got him. I love him to death, but I sometimes feel he doesn’t get enough love because I have to work so much.

Hey! Im also a new runner from SR. I’m from Omaha, but actually just got home from spending the weekend in Denver! The wind (and snow) foiled our hiking plans, my friend is kind of a wuss. I did get out and walk my pup a lot, even met her doppleganger at red rocks! Anyhoo, look forward to reading the blog!
