That Time I Ate the Snacks Before the Sponsored Post

Let me tell you a story because I feel like it sums up my personality in a perfect little nutshell:

A few weeks back, I agreed to this sponsored post with Hillshire Snacking. They have these tasty morsels on special release right now, but more about that in a second.

Anyhow, I agreed to the post and they sent me coupons to purchase the product. I originally planned to test the treats on the road in Canada since I imagined they would be the perfect road trip food. In fact, I still stand by that statement, even though I didn’t get to test the theory!

I went to the store before we left and bought one of the items to see what it was about. I found the Wine-Infused Salame with Natural White Cheddar Cheese at Target while I was out doing some midday shopping. I saved the other coupons because I wanted to find different Hillshire snacks, and Target only carried this one flavor.

As I tend to do, I forgot my lunch that day and I was dying. I was so freaking hungry and I had so much work to do before we left for Canada, so I made a game time decision: why not eat the nice snack I had just purchased at Target?! Sounded like a great plan to me. I mean the cheese and salami were calling my name!

Naturally, I inhaled the “small plate” without giving it a second thought. {And y’all, it was shockingly good. I really enjoyed the cheese!) And once I was done, I felt full so I went about the rest of my day.

We left for Canada the next day in a whirlwind of chores and errands, cramming our luggage into the van and leaving our house approximately five hours later than planned. I immediately realized I hadn’t purchased the other Hillshire Snacks, so now we didn’t have them to try on the road. No big deal, though– I still had the coupons. We could buy them en route to Canada and dine on chicken bites while marveling at the color of Peyto Lake!

Turns out, these delightful tidbits of food are only available in certain areas right now {Denver, Memphis, Dallas, Boston, Detroit and Minneapolis} so I screwed up. Not only could we not buy the food anywhere, but now we had no snacks and no photos. Double fail.

And that, my friends, is the story of the time where I ate the product before fulfilling my sponsored post duties. I really need to quit letting my stomach do the talking!

Now that we’re back in the States, I was able to easily find the Hillshire Snacking products at King Soopers {why I didn’t do that at the beginning is beyond me!} I grabbed a couple varieties, including the wine-infused salame again, along with two flavors of the chicken bites: teriyaki and spicy chipotle bbq. The grilled chicken bites were the ones I was most interested in to begin with!

You see, I actually pack Will’s lunches every day {!}, and I am continually astounded by how much that man eats. It has taken me a solid year to learn how much he consumes during the work day, and I’ve realized that I need to include large amounts of both protein and fat for him to feel full. {Of course, he won’t say anything if he is hungry after my lunch– he knows me packing it for him is a nicety and not something I have to do. But, I always hate to hear that he had to go buy a “second lunch” because mine wasn’t big enough!} And since we’ve been back, I’ve learned that these grilled chicken bites are fantastic for packed lunches!

Sometimes I put it in Will’s lunch so that he can dump the chicken on the salad, but I threw the entire package in my gym bag this morning and just dunked the chicken in the chipotle sauce for a mid-morning snack. I’m not a huge fan of cold chicken so I stuck it in the microwave for 30 seconds and it was quite tasty! Plus, it was a great sub for my post-CrossFit nutrition: with 15-16 grams of protein per package, it’s perfect for muscle repair.

Whatcha think? Does this sound like an on-the-go snack you’d be down to try?
