This guy.

I am absolutely convinced I married the best guy in the world {No, I’m not biased or anything….} He knows me so well but even more is his ability to continually surprise me. First came the surprise visits when we were long-distance dating between San Diego and Colorado. Next was the shock of our surprise engagement trip to Paris and Iceland. And this time? He’s done it again!
We spent Christmas in San Diego with Will’s family and did the usual gifts on the morning of Christmas. Will gave me a box as my final gift, a small container that weighed next to nothing. I opened it up to find a small envelope with a letter. Of course. He probably wrote me a sweet note that was going to make me cry in front of his family!
I opened the envelope and began reading his words on the paper. I won’t go into detail about the rest of the letter, but the takeaway was this: he had requested off the entire month of February from work. And my gift? We were going on a month-long road trip!
Sadly, no van this time around. Photos by Will Rochfort
Y’all, I can’t even begin to express both my excitement and shock at the letter. The two of us have been abnormally busy over the past few months and while it is all fun events and exciting trips, it is mostly scheduled and planned for various projects or assignments. But this road trip? It’s not tied to anything. No projects. No testing requirements. No requirements of any kind, for that matter. It’s just Will, me, our trusty Subaru, and the open road!
Will is doing a great job of keeping the entire trip a secret; that man is like a bear trap! He has told me that our adventures may include Colorado, Utah, California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana or Wyoming. {So much for nailing down the details!} I’ve been told to pack both my downhill and backcountry ski gear, as well as car camping supplies, running gear, and hiking gear. I do know that we’ll be spending a week in Oregon in mid-February, thanks to a media trip that has been on the schedule for a few months. Other than that, I’ve got nothing.
I am so excited for this trip I can barely stand it! The Oregon media trip has been a point of excitement for the past few weeks, but adding in this other adventure makes my brain buzz. Based on how well Will knows me, I have some guesses as to places we may be going, but I won’t know…for another couple of weeks!
