Two Things Happened This Morning…

And while I sure as hell did not find them at all amusing at the time, I’m sure you will! Besides, give me another hour or so, and I’ll probably be giggling right next to you…maybe.

First up: I took Tals out for a brief walk this morning so she could go to the bathroom, etc. It was around 5am, and I was half asleep still. I was kinda sniffing the air, noticing how clean everything smelled as a result of the massive storm we got last night.  Of course, as I have a tendency to do, I wasn’t paying attention and Tals was no better– it’s the one time of day where she is sleepy and drowsy and I don’t have to worry about her darting after a rabbit!

The storm last night

Unfortunately for both of us, our combined sleepiness meant that neither of us noticed that the sprinklers were coming on at my apartment. I heard the noise before they went off, but couldn’t hightail it out of the greenbelt fast enough. Tals and I both got drenched!

Not the best way to wake up!

Second on the agenda: I got to the office early this morning because I usually get there at least 20-30 minutes before the staff. This gives me plenty of time to sort the schedules for the day, organize my mind, etc. Well, imagine my surprise when I tried to unlock the front door …. and it was stuck. The deadbolt unlocked fine, but the handle was just stuck! It was turning so it wasn’t locked, but the door WOULD NOT OPEN. I worked on it for a good 15 minutes before I finally said screw it, sat down, ate my yogurt, and waited for my dad to show up (family run business, remember?)

After dad showed up, the two of us worked at the door for a bit longer and realized that neither of us could get it open! We started to go into major meltdown mode because we were envisioning the worst: having to send our entire staff home for the day because we couldn’t get into the office! Finally, dad got the brilliant idea to ask our neighbors for a crowbar. If the door wouldn’t open, we would beat on it until it gave!

During this time, one of our supervisors showed up, and I explained why my father was carrying around a weapon. Just as dad was about to start beating down the door (literally), our supervisor calmly walks up with a credit card, slides it into the door jam, and easily opens the door….like it was no big deal!

I saw the look on my dad’s face as he had the crow bar in his hands, and I seriously could not stop laughing! Maybe it was from delirium at the fact my morning had gone to complete hell, but I really lost it. Like, I was laying on the ground in the parking lot, laughing hysterically!

How was your morning?

Ok, is it just me, or is it weird that my supervisor knows how to do this with a credit card? It’s like he is Macgyver or someone!

Ha. That sucks. I’ve had runs where I wasn’t paying attention and managed to run right thru sprinklers – they are freaking cold!

And when I was a teenager I snuck out of the house, accidently locked the door w/o a key and got in all sorts of trouble because I couldn’t get back in…a few months later my mom locked herself out and showed me just how freaking easy it was to use a CC to get into the house. Needless to say I felt rather stupid!

What a way to start the day. I hope it’s gotten better. Yes, I agree that it’s a little Mcgyver-ish that he knew that.

That’s a trick that I will save for later:) Glad you didn’t need the crowbar!

Too funny about the credit card!! I worked at The Gap over the holidays and whenever someone would lock the dressing room door from the inside and crawl under (you’d be surprised!), we’d get a credit card to open the door. Never knew that you could do that until I worked there….I guess working at The Gap actually did teach me something other than people are just plain cranky!!
