So, I had my second tri of the summer today and it was awesome. I had so much fun, even if the weekend started out incredibly chaotic! I had to work pretty late on Friday and still deemed it a good idea to go have a drink with some friends, not getting home until 2 on Saturday morning….which normally would be a great idea except I had to be at the tri expo wicked early i Denver. Sooooooooooo, I had to wake up at 6 and drive down to Denver to pick up my registration packet–not my idea of fun!
Anyway, got up at 4:30 this morning to leave at 5 so I could drive down to Aurora, get my sister since she was racing too, and get to the race by 6:15ish which, in theory, would have left me with an hour or so to warm up. Of course, this is theory because the traffic was so bad by the Res that we ended up running up to our bikes right at 7:15–the exact time my wave was supposed to start and 5 minutes before Missy’s wave. Luckily, they had realized that all the athletes were stuck in traffic so they had a late start, but it still stressed me out a little bit!
The race was a good time. My swim time was a little quicker, my run was about the same, and my bike was surprisingly slower due to a few big hills and a decent headwind. It was just so strange to be in a relaxed, non-competitive race environment! Compared to the Boulder Sprint, the women were so much more chilled out and happy: everyone was having fun and smiling and not once did I get punched in the face this time ’round! I also realized that I think I really enjoy these things. I don’t mind the training cause I don’t get bored by the monotony of one sport and I have a blast at the race, seeing how far I can push myself. Sick? Maybe. Masochistic? Sure sounds it. Either way, it is a good feeling to finish and compare your numbers with the previous ones, checking yourself out for improvement. I don’t know. I get a kick out of it!
On that note, I really want to do the Muddy Buddy this year! Any takers? I need a partner! I also think I convinced my mom and Meg to do a duathlon in September–it is just a 12 mile bike and a 5k run, completely eliminating the swim, so Meg was psyched and my mom isn’t scared of it so it should be fun. 🙂
