Yoga on the Rocks

Surprise! Notice anything different?!

Unbeknownst to me, Will teamed up with his friend Gretchen of Gretchen Designs and surprised me with a new logo for my site as a gift a few weeks ago. Naturally, that snowballed into a complete redesign! It just went live a bit ago, so we’ll be working out a lot of the kinks and design quirks over the next couple of days; hang tight!

But…what do you think so far?!

********************

If you’re someone with ears, you’ve likely heard of Red Rocks, the famed outdoor amphitheater here in Colorado. If you’re a local, you know that the red sandstoned-venue is far more than a music hub. Instead, it is crazy popular with tourists and fitness enthusiasts alike!

Example? Yoga on the Rocks! CorePower Yoga came up with the genius idea of hosting one-hour yoga sessions at Red Rocks every Saturday morning during the month of August. When they offered up a free pass for me to try out the popular workout, I couldn’t resist. I snagged it, convinced some gals to join, and spent this past Saturday morning bending and stretching with hundreds of other Denver yogis.

And when I say hundreds, I am not exaggerating!

Unfortunately, I hit a minor snag before I even enter Red Rocks: the traffic! Apparently, there was some cycling race occurring at the same time as YOTR. I had planned my morning so that I arrived at 6:40am, 20 minutes before yoga began. I assumed this was plenty of time, but the traffic was so horrendous that I ended up entering the amphitheater late and didn’t even jump into the practice until 7:15. Locals, be warned!

That aside, the yoga experience was awesome. We ended up on the very top row, partially so I could take creeper photos like the one above and partially because that was the only free space we found! Regardless, the yoga gal had a loud microphone so you could easily hear her directions and the TV monitors clearly showed the demonstrating instructors. No complaints from me!

Yoga on the Rocks

Because it is an open-air environment with tourists milling about, it was a bit difficult for me to focus the same way that I would in a studio. Ironically, that also took the pressure off me. Since I don’t frequently go to yoga, I always feel a tad uncomfortable in the studio because I’m never quite sure what I’m doing or what specific moves are called. Since there were literally hundreds of other people at Red Rocks, I didn’t feel like anyone was watching or judging me and my mad skills.

Even better? The outdoor ambiance was so unique, and dare I say it – peaceful! During our final shavasana, I heard a loud bird cawing. I opened my eyes to see a hawk circling the red rocks with a deep blue sky as a background. As I stared at the sky and listened to the calls of the bird, I honestly felt at home. I realize this is what yoga is supposed to feel like, but it truthfully never happens for me. Instead of staring at myself in a mirror, I enjoyed the sunshine on my face.

And it was glorious!

I LOVE the new logo!!! So creative and cute!

Yoga on the rocks sounds awesome. I had my first outdoor yoga experience over the weekend too. It is harder to get in the zone because of the outside noise but still so amazing to practice outside.

Yes! It definitely takes a different sort of mental control, but much more my style!

I’ve wanted to go to Red Rocks since DMB Live at Red Rocks…which I’m sure you were at least partially referring to in that sentence “if you have ears…” and it also dates me a bit because I remember the beautiful mountain on the cover of the CD. (yes kids, there was once these things called CD’s! ) I think the photos are beautiful and though I have never done yoga, I would have gone to that and tried my tail off just to get the experience. Also, great new look!

Oh yes! I can’t even imagine how many “Live at Red Rocks” CDs are floating around this world! And, btw, hi! I went to visit your blog the other day when I noticed I hadn’t heard from you in awhile. Hope all is well!

      And thanks!

Saturday was so amazing. I’m not really a huge fan of yoga, my mind just goes too fast and I tend to get bored in a studio but this was a blast! They”re already sold out for this weekend!

Love the new design! That yoga sounds awesome. Totally outdoors and Zen, even with tourists. Much better than a yoga studio that reeks of sweat!

YES! And because there were so many people, you weren’t distracted by them…if that makes any sense. I mean, with hundreds of people, dozens are bound to be falling all over, but I barely noticed. Now, when I took CorePower with 20 people in a studio and a girl fell in the trash can, I couldn’t stop laughing for at least 20 minutes! 😉

Love the new look and header!!

I always enjoy yoga….except when I’m doing it in my living room…I can’t seem to get my mind in the right place when I’m at home.

I can’t even bother to try yoga at home! I suck at home workouts in general. I’ll be laying on the floor and all of a sudden I’m like, “OH! Look at his mess, I need to vacuum!” And so ends my at-home workouts 🙂

You already know I love the new look but of course I had to comment!!!
